We need some damn positivity around here. I realize there are plenty of negative things to say too, but we have a thread for that. There is reason to hope. There were literally people saying we’re missing the 2022 WC because we lost 1-0 to Mexico

-We have real depth at RB. Reggie Cannon was fantastic yet again.
-Pulisic
-We were clearly the better side in the first half.
-Pulisic
-Aaron Long was great all tournament
-Pulisic
-Tyler Adams will bring this team up a notch.
-Also, Pulisic

Reggie Cannon being good means maybe we’ll play Adams at midfield?
That would be a huge positive.

Think we also know we have to move onto Bradley which could be construed as a positive.. He’s fine against slower teams where we control possession but he’s a defensive liability at this point.

Our young guys weren't afraid to get in their faces and get aggressive. Hard fouls were returned and they were there immediately to stick up for their teammates. That had been lacking since Jermaine left the team.

This might’ve been my favorite takeaway from this game. Weston showed some balls tonight.

I love this thread from Tutul. Pretty much agree with everything he says.

You should feel optimistic after that showing. On a different day, chances get finished and we win that game. But the biggest thing is if Berhalter learns from this. Specifically the next 6 months have to be pushing the player pool & getting less cute with tactical changes.

quote:

It's no coincidence that we look the most dangerous with this starting lineup and it's Altidores holdup play. It's a target in the middle that allows Pulisic to roam wide and McKennie to cover for Bradley. Zardes gives none of that. 2/

quote:

Which means we have to give the younguns a chance to push out the vets in performance. Zardes will never be able to push out Altidore. Sargent might. Trapp will never be able to push out Bradley. Give Adams the keys. Roldan isn't going to be a starter. Pomykal might.

quote:

The players that need youngster to push them out Ream (Araujo, Gloster, Dest) Bradley (Should be Adams already, Cerrillo) Altidore (Sargent) Morris (Should be Weah already, Llanez) Arriola (Pulisic wide, Pomykal, Ledezma) Have to give them the chance

quote:

f they cant beat them out now, that's fine. Don't hand it to them. But we have to be done with players that don't have the potential to be a starter.

quote:

Also tactical subs. Bringing in two "high engine" guys to try to press harder was getting cute. They have engines but the press was still soft because as a system it depended on everyone being synced. In that case you need more like for like subs

quote:

I do think this is Berhalter getting used to the international game. It's really different from club. But he's got to be the one that learns from it for us to be able to move one End.

The boys fought for each other. That’s the main positive I took away from this game.

Christ I forgot how much I missed him, Dempsey, and Beckerman being absolute psychopaths.

Except he said this was Berhalter learning. Learning the international stage. A head coach, of an international team, learning the international stage.

I don't see that as a positive.

I want Berhalter to succeed. It probably doesn’t seem that way, but I promise I do. It’s just dumb shite like tonight with the subs that makes me think he is trying to be wayyyyy too smart instead of making the obvious moves regarding the players on the pitch.

Pros:
- McKennie looks good, despite tonight. He is young and will struggle with consistency. It happens to everyone, I am not worried.
- Cannon was great and should be a call up for immediate future barring some nightmarish appearance in the future.
- Despite Mexico dragging their dicks all over our faces that second half we only let in a single goal and it was a hell of a goal at that which was perfectly placed.

the positive is this wasn't the world cup. lessons are better learned in defeat and hopefully that translates well down the road.

This is true. They had very few goalmouth chances. They had a lot of trouble finding a final ball.

I'm upset that McKennie is staying at Schalke, unless they can get their shite together. They just have him playing all over the place trying to cover their shite heap. I'd love to see him get consistent time at one position

Hopefully he'll leave on a free, in tried and true Schalke tradition.

Damn. Tranfermarket rates him at 20 mil euros, which could be good value for the right team, especially in this market.

We all of the sudden are like 4 or 5 deep at RB, we absolutely have to see if some of those guys can play on the left.

The one dynamic LB that we’ve had post-2006 (Fab) never wanted to play LB. I’m sick of that position always being the clear focal point for the other team’s attack.
