...for putting the 2nd Man City/Liverpool fixture on a Thursday in January instead of a Sunday in April or May.

A Liverpool victory will all but wrap up the title with 18 matches to go.

Way to create drama.

I wish, but no way. City is too strong. This league won’t be over for a long while.

Pool hasn’t lost or had an injury crisis in like two years.

We are cooked if they beat us.

OK. Say Liverpool win. They are up 10 with 17 matches to go, I think.

Let's also say City win out. They are still down 10. Where does Liverpool drop 10 points?

No fricking way. Even if City get a draw, I still don't see Liverpool dropping 7 points without Mo Salah getting a season ending injury.

But, I stand by my OP: Why would you put such an important fixture so early in the season?

We're down to two senior CBs for the next month or so...

No way is it done, but I'd feel a lot better about our chances, 24 hours from now..

City was 8 points behind United with only 6 matches to play in 11/12.

I agree with your point, but on the other hand, Man City was one of those 6 matches.

United dropped 7 points in the last 16 games against teams that weren't City.

There was an article in the last year or so that detailed the algorithm/process for making the schedule and how it’s pretty common to play the same teams around the same time each year

The biggest thing I remember it talking about is the logistics for policing and match day staff for clubs in the same city. Aka you’ll never see City/United or Liverpool/Everton play at home on the same day

I know we’ve played City right around New Years the last few seasons. Feel like there were also a couple of league matches in March as well

But yeah simply put, as far as I understood it’s not as easy as just setting aside a few big matches to save for the last few weeks of the season. You’d think they’d do it if possible for max tv ratings

Read that with a large amount of self-deprecating sarcasm btw.

the scheduling algorithm shouldn't take how good teams are into account

now the Premier League during the season can move games around to put good ones in good tv slots, but the algorithm should be totally random other than with the logistical issues
