They are proven quantities and not x-factors. They'll both play big roles in Brazil IMO.

The only part of Green's cameo that bothered me was that he looked lost defensively and made a mistake that led to a goal.
I don't doubt that he could create a chance or two for us, but it's not worth it if he creates chances for the other team.

I don't even know x-factor means. It is used so differently.

Fairly or unfairly, he will be because he took the roster spot of the "Face of U.S. Soccer".

Agree.

His game is so raw at this point that it reminds of Gerrard Deulofeu. One great game, 3 bad ones. One flash of brilliance, 2 horrifying defensive mistakes.

He has the same ability to make defenders look straight up stupid that Deulofeu has though. Hopefully Julian can be a huge factor in the last 20 minutes of games.

This rhetoric needs to stop. Green didn't take Donovan's spot. Brad Davis took Donovan's spot.

No player took his spot. No reason to blame on any of the players. They did their best to earn a spot.

Since JK said he considered Donovan a striker for roster purposes, it's most likely Wondo he took instead of Donovan...if you want to put it that way.

have you actually had the opportunity to watch four (or more than one) of Green's games to even make that comparison?

why is everyone so down on this kid? If he is playing why shouldn't he see the field?

He plays in one of the worst leagues out of anyone in the whole tournament, he did absolutely nothing in his one appearance except fall, and he is only 18 years old. I believe in proven commodities. Time and time again, it is better to dance with the devil you know.

Him playing there at 18 is not a negative, considering why he's on that particular team.

How exactly did he end up in the 18 for a CL match? That's not a gotcha question; I'm legitimately curious.

Oh and "he did nothing but fall" is bullshite.

Hendo would have to answer, but I thought it was meaningless (Bayern already had the goals to advance to the next stage or something). I do not remember, but I think it was like 2 minutes on the pitch as well.

Just watch the kid play before judging him. Everyone on the team seems to think he's legit.

As do many Bayern regulars who see him in training.

I know. People shite all over Julian for many reasons, but everything I've seen about him has been overwhelmingly positive.

...except that turnover that led to the tying goal against Mexico. In 18 minutes he helped give away a w, but almost drew a penalty to get it back. That's all we've seen from Julian so far and he's going to Brazil. It's neither fair nor comforting, but it is exciting. Yedlin is the same way.

It was against CSKA Moscow and the game was well in hand...if I recall, Mandzo was injured and didn't make the trip, so there was an extra spot for JG. It may have been a 2 or 3 minute sub at most.

At the time I thought it was a ploy to keep him on the German national team...in the end, it was just a teasing favor of sorts.
