Why?

Just seems like you're biased against TT in here. You even admitted it.

That's fine but what about what they said warranted anything that Jozy said?

This is the 3rd time I've said he was too harsh.

I must have missed that when it was mixed in with other bullshite like this

quote:

Does Twellman have a history of reducing certain black players to the "big, strong, powerful" stereotype? I know it has been an issue with certain announcers/pundits, but is Twellman one of them?

The bulk of Taylor's argument is that the Olympics is really important to having success at the national team level. I strongly believe that it isn't.

Actually his argument is that the United States need to learn how to win in any tournament.

Be better.

What’s that got to do with Jozy pulling the race card?

You’re getting a good exercise in here tap-dancing around what Broski is asking you.

Just answer him already, dude.

He uses that to support his argument that the Olympics is important. He mentioned that Germany and Brazil were in the 2016 final, but didn't mention that Honduras and Nigeria were the other semifinalists. Missing the 2016 and 2012 Olympics was a symptom of the disease that led to 2017. Our best players in that age group just simply weren't good enough. We're still feeling the effects of that missing generation today because most of the backbone of our team are U23 players. Most of the people on this U23 team really don't have much of a chance to make the senior team because they are behind players that are their age or even younger.

He failed to mention that we made the quarterfinals of the last 3 U20 WCs, and the 2017 U17 WC.

So did the Canadians.

You can't be this stupid. You're clearly cherry picking.

It would have been a good point for them to use. At the end, Taylor mentioned the "scoreboard" and only pointed out our losses, not the wins. And our recent wins are a better reflection on where our senior team is and where it is going than our recent losses.

Just look at these star-studded rosters.

For clarity, here's the Olympic medalists since 1992.

1992: Spain, Poland, Ghana
1996: Nigeria, Argentina, Brazil
2000: Cameroon, Spain, Chili
2004: Argentina, Paraguay, Italy
2008: Argentina, Nigeria, Brazil,
2012: Mexico, Brazil, South Korea
2016: Brazil, Germany, Nigeria

Bold = Did not qualify for WC.

11 of those are Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Germany, and Italy. Teams that generally do well at the WC even when they don't medal at the Olympics.

South Korea last missed the WC in 1982, Mexico since 1990 (they were banned), Nigeria only missed one since 1994 (same as us).

I'd say most of those did well at the Olympics because they constantly have deep programs instead of the Olympics being integral to their World Cup success.

I don't like to hear him call games, but I'm not biased against him. I like and respect him as a person, player, and especially all the work he's done for concussion awareness/prevention.

I really dislike having to listen to Twellman call games. He comes across as arrogant and obnoxious to me. I’ve stated this on here on multiple occasions.

But, I have absolutely ZERO beef with what he’s saying in that clip. Agree or not on the importance of the Olympics, Jozy taking offense personally to the comments is ridiculous.

A country like the US should be trying its hardest to qualify for any international tournament, Olympics or otherwise. We should be there alongside Mexico in running CONCACAF from a competitive standpoint.....excuses and all. I think that’s what the sentiment is behind Twellman’s comments and, really, that fuels the disappointment with so many US soccer fans.
