Why is he even on the USMNT, much less starting?

Am I missing something?

Personally I don’t think he should be starting either (Dike) but I think he’d be great off the bench

His goal scoring form both for club and country has not been good enough for him to start, IMO. He does work hard, but does not do enough other things to make up for his lack of goals. A striker needs to be a goal scoring threat!

This guy is asking why he's even on the team.

I haven’t seen any glimpse of him being a threat. He lacks composure, confidence, and doesn’t produce.

Poor man’s Bobby Firmino. Iron lungs and will press all game, but he can’t finish and unlike Bobby he doesn’t free up space for his teammates and he can’t pass like Bobby. Dike is the best striker in our pool for how we end up playing.

I want to see what Sargent can do with a team that’s not a dumpster fire. He still was tied for most goals and assists this year (7) and second in goals (5) for Werder Bremen. I’m going to withhold judgment until he plays for a team that at least gets him scoring opportunities. That said, at this point I’m not sure he’s showed enough to be our number 1, and I would like to see what Dike can do in a starting role for the full team. He’s been in fantastic form and looks great every time he comes on for us as a sub. I think the only thing he doesn’t do as well as Sargent is press.

Because he provides more on the field than Zardes and any of our other strikers we had seen before VERY recently.

Yes, especially if you only started watching since Dike came into the scene.

Dike will be starting when qualifying comes around, IMO. Sargent needs to work on his finishing. He isn't some dynamic striker, but his positioning is good. He is constantly around the ball in the attacking third, and helps create space for the wingers to push up into. The "poor man's Bobby Firmino" was spot on. Drops into the hole and isn't often on the ball to score.

Dike and Sargent are both great in hold up play, but Dike does so in a manner that moves things toward the goal. He will make a run off the shoulder and set the opposing back line up for failure. Sargent will drop down and basically be an extra midfielder to help with keeping possession; allowing us to connect to our wingers more efficiently. He'll also press thefrick out of the defense.

He’s one of our top 3 forwards and you’re asking why he’s even on the team?

I’ll admit he hasn’t produced a lot lately, but there’s a reason why he’s playing in the top 5.

That our player pool is shallower than a 1 ft kiddie pool.

With that said, Sargent has worth, he shouldn't be the obvious starter at the 9, but no one has locked that down.

I honestly think we're going to see a good bit of Jesus Ferreira in qualifying. Gregg loves him because he does a lot of the same things Sargent does in terms of dropping into the midfield. I think he's a little better than Sargent in making dangerous runs in front of goal as well.

Yup, some of his off-ball runs in the nations league matches were idiotic.

His off ball runs are the weakest part of his game.

Dike gets a start and we're already ready to kick Sargent off the squad.

Yes. Dike is probably better, but Josh is the best option we've had in a while before Dike's emergence.

I love the kid since he's from STL, but im starting to get a little annoyed with his progress. he needs to finish, pretty simple. I will say he does a fabulous job of getting into position.
