Lippi is one of the most accomplished coaches in the history of the game, but I am worried that he would rely on older players and not incorporate our youngsters as much.

Also, in the last two decades, he has basically coached pre-scandal Juve, Inter, and the Azzurri. It's going to be a hell of an adjustment to coach the US NT.

But if we go with Lippi, Klinsmann, or Kreis, it's better than sticking with Bradley, who has maximized what he can do with this squad.

I think it'd be a shame if the change affects Baby Bradley's(still using the moniker until there's a new manager and no chance for confusion) playing time. He's been the most consistent outfield performer on the MNT for years

I don't know. Seems like hindsight to criticize him for his selection for WC 10. He had just won the WC with those guys 4 years before and they were still all playing in Serie A. No one predicted that showing, did they?

Unless we get a vindictive douche like Steve McClaren who mistreated Beckham (and I don't see it happening), Bradley will be an important member of the starting 11. However, we may actually see him get substituted out at some point in his career.

The A-team line-up will/should include Howard, Chandler, Bocanegra, Holden, Bradley, Donvoan, Dempsey, and Altidore with pretty much any reasonable coach.

Just for fun, we should bring in Steve Sampson for a week. Let's watch him trot out this line-up against Mexico:

Yeldell
Spector-Ream-Gonzalez-Pearce
Rogers-Jones-Edu-Bedoya
Buddle-Wondolowski

They were all in the 32-34 range, and when you consider he left Rossi at home for the strikers he chose, it's headscratching to say the least.

From the weak performance in Euro 2008 and the Confederations Cup, he needed to know better.

Same thing that could have been said about Bruce Arena in 2006.

Good points, but I don't think you're supposed to use that name on here.

All hating aside on the New Jersey Judas, but from an objective standpoint, he needed to be on the 23-man team.

Iaquinta, Gilardino, and di Natale are not going to get you very far.

I can understand leaving Swagotelli at home though, since he is in his early 60s and presumably values his health.

Not enough backs for Sampson and the 6-3-1

If we're talking about 2014, I'm not sure about Bocanegra.

Lippi never won a World Cup with our old guys.

He used old guys because that's who he won with the previous tournament. 2nd time coaches tend to do that.

A few of my relatives seem to still be holding a grudge against the guy in that picture.

Lippi has been in charge of highly accomplished veteran sides for the past two decades. He hasn't needed to work with younger players who are raw but have room for improvement.

I'd take him all day over Bradley, but if a guy is going to rely on Gilardino and Iaqunita (who were not his workhorses in 2006) over Rossi, I have a hard time seeing him run out a line-up with Mix, Brek Shea, Mwanga (after Obama expedites his citizenship application), etc.

Bradley did a lot better at the WC than Lippi did, and with a much smaller talent pool. Tying New Zealand at the WC? Come on.

The 2010 Italian WC team was a disappointment but, still, are you seriously comparing Bradley to Lippi in terms of resume?
