It seems like fox is taking the let's Americanize soccer approach, that Espn tried already and abandoned.

This is what frightens me.

Once ESPN realized that "teaching the game" wasn't the way to present this tournament, they revamped the coverage starting with 2010 and it was brilliant.

In 2006, Dave O'Brien & JP Dellacamra were the 2 lead play by play guys.

In 2010, it was Martin Tyler and Ian Darke.

In 2014, it was Darke and Jon Champion

In 2018, it's looking like one is going to be Gus Johnson.

Who has the rights for usmnt qualifying for the next cup? I think part of the reason for the Usmnt hype was Espn putting qualifying front and center.

Is fox going to do two hour lead ups to qualifying games and put the resources get everyone interested.

ESPN has rights to half of all USMNT games included in its new deal for MLS broadcast rights.

Don Garber and Soccer United Marketing doing work.

Edit: half

Will suck if at least one of the announcers doesn't have a British accent...

There is talk of Joe Buck trying his hand at it.

Seriously.

For how much I don't really like espn, their coverage has been outstanding and it will be a shame if they have to give it up.

Well, they do and they are.

FOX put in a bid of like $400 million. I think ESPN paid $150 million for 2010 and 14

Get ready - Gus soundboard.

As a casual fan, I came to really enjoy Ian Darke. Thought Ballack started slow, but got much better. Roberto was outstanding. Gilberto can barely speak English. Ruud was meh, IMO. I know several of you have said you like Twellman in the studio, not the game. It's the opposite for me. I don't really notice it's him during the games, but the frat boy image or something seems to take over in the studio.

I'm not sure Aikman will be able to form coherent sentences by 2018.
