I do not truly believe. But there is a chance, so I will be rooting like hell!

I believe. We won't make it out with a single point though if we play as shitty as we did in 2010.

The US played fine in 2010. However, we cannot have multiple legit goals disallowed or we are fricked.

Heart says yes

Head says no.

I think Portugal is a lot better than people are giving them credit for. Just my opinion though.

Will still be cheering like hell for the boys in red , white and blue.

If I was forced to bet my house I would bet no. But I do feel there is cause to be optimistic, especially if we can catch a few breaks along the way

We must beat Ghana, and I think we will. It's about time we beat a them, considering we are pretty evenly matched.

Then with a magical performance (involving luck, goalkeeping, and goals) in one of the next two games, we advance with two wins.

I'm talking about Portugal 2002 or Confederations Cup against unbeatable Spain. We need an epic performance.

uway, you make some good points. To all you guys who say we need "breaks" or "luck." There will be FIFA officials refereeing the games. We will have no such "luck" and get no breaks.

We HAVE to do this on our own.
Can we do it? Yes, we can, we have the talent and athletic ability.
Will we? Not likely.
The United States could play its very best football for decades in this group and still go home 0-3-0.

On the other hand...

This - I'd handicap it around 40% to advance, which is slightly more faith than Vegas

I would say 40% we do. I will have a much better feeling either way after we play Nigeria. Obviously Germany is a different kind of animal... but we always seem to play up to the big international teams.

I'd agree with this wholeheartedly. Also, we're definitely due to beat Ghana and this seems like as good a time as any to do so.

I believe we can. Whether we will, I'm at about 50/50.

I do. We only need 4 points. Beat Ghana, draw Portugal, advance on GD or have Portugal draw Ghana.

I don't, but there's always a chance. If we beat Ghana and Jones gets Pepe sent off...

I would happily place a ban bet from the Soccer board saying that USA does not qualify

Would you do one that's based on who gets more points, USA or England?

I a pessimistic a-hole and gave up on this years World Cup the moment the draw was announced. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see us getting out of the group and I don't see us winning a game.
