The Maracana (the one in Rio that is hosting this current game, the opener, finale, and others) is the biggest. I believe it is somewhere between 73-75K in capacity. I think the rest are 40K+, but I could be wrong on that.

Maybe by 2022 Baton Rouge could handle being a site for some World Cup games but its current state definitely could not.
Also, a World Cup game would be in New Orleans way before Baton Rouge.

MLS doesn't matter in this, I think their attendance is avg not sure though.
its about the best places. Its not going to beat out Seattle. Denver or ATL. I think Houston would be great but with Dallas already being a city that hurts its chances.

Why would you consider these better? Stadium in Houston is fine as frick, it seats more people, 4th biggest city in the US, rabid built in base of soccer fans. When I think soccer I don't think Denver and the ATL.

I would like to see it done in a more regional area to cut down on travel, especially for the Europeans who do not understand how vast the US is. However, this would never happen.
Northeast/Midwest:

For Mexico but so would Dallas
Seattle is a much more soccer crazy than Houston and Denver and Atlanta have huge hispanic populations as well, if it came down to them buying tickets for games as neutrals which I doubt.

I think Rio to Manaus is a 3 hour, 15 minute flight according to Google maps. It is not really possible to get there any other way. I do not know the distance, but there are also a couple stadiums south of Rio.

soccer is huge in Atlanta. it's a huge city, too. there really is not a question about it. Atlanta will be a venue if the world cup comes to the states. guaranteed.

That would be awesome and we had a thread at nauseum talking about why logistically Germany and England are better for a WC. People were too blinded by their love for everything American to realize this.
I hope they at least keep the groups some what close like Group A, B and C only play in DC, NYC and Boston.
Let the fans pick a central location like most here have with Rio.

So why does one city in the US have to get the bid? Why can't it be a state or a region?
The Southeast would be cool. Have matches in Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta, Starkville, Houston, etc

Atlanta, Houston, and Nashville would do very very well as southern sites for a WC in the US.
