I watch soccer only when USA is in the world cup. Why do these US teams never take shots?

Every time I watch the US in the world cup its just non-stop passes whether they have an open shot or not. Can soccer experts explain why they make 2 or 3 extra passes every time instead of trying to kick it in the net?

Trying for higher percentage shots.

We don’t really have a great center forward.

Also, post less.

Because the shots would suck.

Clinical finishers take shots. We don’t have a guy who can consistently take those effectively. CP & WM aren’t bad. But they are much better at finding that extra pass than long range shots. I mean I know WM had 2 that sailed way high (one was a volley) and CP hit the cross bar. So we don’t refuse to shoot.

So it’s all about finding the extra pass and a high percentage shot.

I know as someone who doesn’t watch soccer draws suck, but that was about the best goalless game you’re going to get. If you can’t appreciate that, you might be wasting your time.

We didn’t pass up shots that I saw. Watch more soccer.

Because real life isn’t FIFA with respect to ease of distance striking. You also can’t defy laws of physics and kick it through defenders, or hit it cleanly while off-balance

Not sure what match you were watching but there really weren’t any untaken shots

bullshite we didn't.

We also turned bitch on multiple cross opportunities and decided to keep passing it backwards.

We played like a bunch of cowards on offense today.

Example? Assuming you have a few in mind to feel that strongly

Labeling that performance cowardly only kinda makes sense if that was the first match you’ve ever seen

Lalas and Dempsey agree with me. They were reaming the offensive performance after the game.

We played like a bunch of pussies in the final third.

Why would I watch for 90 minutes for something that doesn’t exist? It should be easy for you to recall an instance or two to at least help me triangulate

FYI this not something any self-aware American fan of the sport would ever use to advance debate

They didn’t execute in the final third but it simply wasn’t tentative, cowardly football. That’s not even a hot take, it’s just absurd

Best of luck as you begin your journey as a fan though

I played soccer for almost 20 years, including ODP and a couple seasons in the UK.

Congrats on making excuses for piss poor attacking though.

I guess it makes you appear edgy and cool.

Its similar to watching a football game and seeing a wide receiver wide open when he’s lined up at the LOS and you thinking “throw it to him now”. Well, that throw - and those shots - get closed down a helluva lot quicker than it looks like on your TV.

We outshot England so I'd say we weren't exactly cowards. They took a lot more chances yesterday than the Wales game and until those last couple of minutes were very brave in attacking. We kept England on their back foot most of the game, you don't do that being cowardly.
