How in the hell do you ever face your wife or children after doing this in a WC?

I mean you got kicked out of a World Cup for completely flopping and literally crying on the ground after even though you weren’t touched
I will never ever understand this about soccer. I understand selling a shove to make sure the ref sees it like the England player did. But literally faking a true injury writhing in pain after makes no sense. What’s the point? To try and purposefully look soft?

They do it because it would be obvious that you simulated a foul if you just got up like nothing happened.
I hate it too, but that’s why they do it. It can also be a time waster as well. The irony is that the over embellishment also makes it obvious that they are full of shite. But the referee can’t assume they are not hurt. At least VAR has discouraged this behavior some.

The best use of video review in all of sports is getting this cheating crap out of the game.
Instant replay in tv has shown for years how slimy and weak these soccer flops are, and it gains a significant advantage. It completely ruins the game for casual fans, especially Americans where being tough is a virtue.
Hopefully this will be a lesson to everyone in the future. Stop flopping around like a fish you shitty fricking liars. No one touched you.

It’s funny that everyone on the world stage is crying about Argentina getting protected on these VAR reviews. All of them were the correct call.
I do think the ref should have discretion to take away the yellow for Paredes and not issue one for the other player

Nah, diving, especially when embellished that much, is and should always be a yellow. Only way to eradicate it from the game.

I think this merited a yellow. I just don’t like the rule

The only way to limit the diving and flopping is by issuing yellow cards in situations like that. Personally I loved the call even though it doomed the Swiss who I wanted to win.

It was so idiotic. They had just scored, they had all the momentum, they were dominating possession in the second half up to that point. I don’t know what Embolo was thinking

Not really. It was the grabbing, rolling and moaning part that said simulation. Popping back up quickly wouldn’t draw a simulation booking… especially in the World Cup knockouts IMO.

It would cause the VAR refs to immediately review what happened. And lead to a simulation call by the ref.

I personally think this type of simulation warrants a straight red! That’s how much I hate diving. If you get fouled and go down to get the call, fine, but this stuff needs to be eradicated.

Took a heavy touch and was going to lose possession out of bounds.
It just shows how deeply engrained this behavior is in the game now. I've even seen random highlights of youth teams recently and some of them are doing the same thing.
There's just so many tells when a guy is diving. The arms go up and the head goes back, neither of which is a natural reaction if you are knocked off balance and are going to fall. Any sort of jumping is not natural. Covering your face with your hand isn't natural. If you get legitimately hit in the face you might touch the specific spot, but you aren't just going to cover your entire face with one or both hands like you're stopping an open artery. It's just turned into horrible acting, and the refs are just as much to blame as the players.
Yes, the penalties for it should be harsh, but refs have got to do a better job of calling fouls when a guy stays up if it's going to be completely eradicated.
Their options are either 100% no foul if I stay on my feet
50% foul, 10% no foul, 20% chance i'm getting a yellow, 20% chance he's getting a yellow if they dive.

A million times this
And I think it should follow you. Do it again in another game, straight red. Each offense means escalating punishment

Absolutely, that would really discourage people from doing it. It's 100% avoidable.
I couldn't believe Donovan and the other announcer for the England game arguing that he shouldn't have been given a second yellow for simulation. For as much shite people give Lalas, Donovan has some of the worst takes ever.

That isn't an option because simulation is considered unsporting behavior and that merits an automatic caution.

There is no reward for fighting the fouls and staying up, you're pushed off the ball probably going to lose it, and may get the call. They are using the legal letter of the laws for offsides through VAR, but using 2 hands on the back to shove a player off the ball or out of play is nothing.
