re: How did you choose your favorite BPL team?

I chose my favorite team kinda by default due to my very limited exposure. United was pretty much all I could watch growing up and so I was just drawn to watch more and more as I got more interested in Soccer.
Sadly, the first season I paid full attention (watching as many games live as possible) was 2013-2014.

I just feel like a lot of serious supporters in the US (or people who are serious about learning the game and getting into it) will pick one of the two.
By that I mean people will see either club as a strong option for those who don't want to jump on board with a perennial favorite. Both have good supporters clubs in the US, have US players in one form or another and are accessible enough for the US fan.
Our local EFC club has some disdain for Tottenham, as do I (in a sporting way), that just isn't replicated in the UK that I can tell (Most EFC fans in England, as far as I know, generally like Spurs, probably for the same reasons Americans may choose between them).
Interesting. I would think that most Spurs supporters in the US that chose Spurs over Everton would have no ill feelings towards the Toffees. I, for one, pull for Everton as long as they aren't playing Spurs or so long as an Everton victory doesn't negatively impact Spurs' position.

Watched for a few years, there were a few teams I would follow more than others, but eventually Arsenal's style of play and organization pulled me in.

I love that Arsenal gets included in this despite not winning the league in over decade. It is like calling someone a bandwagon-er for becoming a Cowboys fan nowadays.

Life as an Arsenal fan isn't the most joyous situation....

Michael Owen in '98 World Cup drew me in... When I started watching more EPL, I remembered him and sought out his team... By that time, Gerrard was bossing it..
That's why I still have a soft spot for Owen, when many LFC supporters view him as Judas..

Yup. Very similar story here.

Way back in the sixties and seventies, you could catch parts of some English league matches on Wide World of Sports.
I was a kid and thought the name "Arsenal" sounded cool.
I admit, I've only followed PL--and world professional--football closely the last few years or so with access to all the PL matches on my cable package.
I wasn't following closely during the time of The Invincibles.
But now, I am much more passionate about the PL than I am about the NFL.
I have been a Rams fan since I was a kid and my interest has been revived some with Todd Gurley and the pending move back to Los Angeles--kinda makes me nostalgic.
But the same nervous anticipation I used to feel before Rams games, I now feel for Arsenal matches.

I had a similar story to one of the earlier guys. This Brit kid moved to my school and of course everyone loved him because of his accent. We became pretty good friends and his name was Mikey.
It was right when Owen was blowing up and my friend Mikey was an LFC supporter. We'd watch them whenever we could and his parents paid the extra money to do so.
2001 was a good year for LFC and then 2005 was insane. That cemented it for me. 2005 was about when I was old enough to really become a supporter and then Torres etc and thats all she wrote.
I feel like most of my friends support Arsenal. Don't really have a problem with Arsenal. The rest I could just never see myself supporting in all my life.

Why does everyone feel the need to qualify their bandwagon choice in way that makes them look less bandwagony?

Southampton Saints. New Orleans Saints. Watched some of their matches, and enjoyed them.
I also like New Castle, West Ham, Swansea, and whoever is playing the Arsenal or United.

Last year was my first to have access to all the games through NBCSN. I went in with an open mind and just watched games with the hope my team would find me, I ended up falling in love with Leicester City during their incredible run in to avoid the drop. They have a lively ground and have been arguably the most watchable team in England this season so far.

Started off by playing a lot of FIFA and would always put myself on the lowest ranked BPL team. Wound up being Crystal Palace. I never really got into watching on a regular basis until last year, and desperately tried to become an Everton fan because of Tim Howard (and to a lesser degree Roger Bennett). However, I just never felt connected, and would seemingly drift over to watching Palace play. Puncheon, Bolaise, and Zaha could attack so quick, and they never seemed content with a draw. I kept watching more and more Palace, and they kept knocking off top teams. I started looking into their history and became more impressed with what they're doing now in the top flight. I've decided to forever through my British soccer loyalty in with CP.

When I was about 7 or 8 I got one of the FIFA games for my gameboy and always played as Man U. I was the only one in my family that played soccer but eventually got my couple other siblings to play and it turned into team that we all were a fan of. I guess it started out as 7 year old me picking the good team to play as but I have stuck with them for over a decade now.

Pretty damn good reason.
Not sure how anyone can not love/appreciate Henry.
He exemplified all that pure soccer stands for IMO.
Torres is the only player I've seen come close to him as far as being so damn fast and powerful, yet finishing so elegantly and precise. And he only did it for a couple of season. Henry did it his whole career.

I agree. If I had really just started following the Premier League last year, I might pull for the Foxes too.
Also, the atmosphere at Palace games seems really awesome from what I've seen.
