Thank you. All this bitching and moaning about how we're going to get crushed and how we're 100% doomed is just ridiculous. People need to nut up and realize we have a legitimate chance to get out of this group.

How about you kiss off, in 2006 they got an unjust penalty and we dominated the game in 2010 with many more good chances than Ghana, Howard let in a near post goal or their is no extra time, on the goal Howard let in at the 93 minute mark he was halfway out, you come out or stay but you don't come halfway out, the near post goal is ALWAYS on the keeper.
Ghana is an OK African team but they are not a great technical team at all.
I know you limited soccer gurus only look at final scores, but we had 20 shots to there 16 ( mostly wild shots ) and far more excellent scoring opportunities than Ghana.
Findley was one on one with the GK who made a kick save in the first half.
In the 76 minute Bradley beat the offside trap and hit a screamer with his left foot that the GK had to get low and stretch for and 4 minutes later Altidore whilst falling down in the penalty area ( many people felt it was a penalty ) missed by 6 inches.
When trying to get a read on a future game the win or loss of a past game is not the be all end all.

Though apparently, we shouldn't question your deep and far-ranging soccer wisdom, three BIG things cost us that game:
- inability to control possession in the midfield
- inability to finish
- back line's susceptibility to being beat for pace
We are markedly (waaaaay) better in the first aspect. You could argue that we're better in the second, I suppose. We still miss a lot of easy chances, but whoever we trot out *should* do a better job than Findley, Buddle, Gomez and marginal form (in 2010) Jozy. The third? If some combination of Gonzalez, Goodson and/or Besler are on the field, I'd argue that we're marginally better (at best) than 2010 DeMerit and Bocanegra.

Kevin Prince if he decided to play will give us fits in all three aspects
Ill leave it like this, match up wise these teams we do not match up with good at all.
Germany for obvious reason
Portugal very technical and lots of pace and CR7 vs our back line
Ghana not as technical as the other two but still have the talent playing in Europe and are very physically imposing type of team.

They are also a Jekyll and Hyde sort of team. Depending on how we catch them we could do well.
We are a better team than Ghana but their athleticism worries me. Thank god we don't rely on Ricardo Clark or Edu anymore in midfield. An axis of Jones-Bradley is better suited to dealing with that midfield.
I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances. We have a good team. So much rides on injury luck and luck in general in tournaments like these. But we will create chances against all three teams.

in a group like this i feel we really need to lean on our euro based players more than ever. Outside LD and Duece the MLS guys might be in a world of hurt

Outside of possibly Zusi, I really don't think we will rely on an MLS dudes (unless you include Demps and Donovan, which is being disingenuous in my opinion).
I think Cam will be RB, and Fab will be LB.
I also believe that Aron J will play alongside on right behind Jozy.
This ain't the US team of old. We have the talent to play with just about anybody in the world. It won't be easy, but it is the World Cup.

It's fairly likely that our CB pairing will be all MLS. Unless Brooks steps up or we decide to go with Cameron there.

They could but it's unlikely. Prince is a damn fine player but he's also crazy. Essien hasn't been the same player for quite a while. I would be more worried about the Ayew brothers. We are in a way better position to compete physically now.

Well yeah, but Essien now is a limited version of Essien 2007-08, when he was really awesome. He's not nearly as dynamic now but he can still do a job in the middle of the park.
