While they'd lose, I think USA matches up better with Germany than Portugal does . USA would play with a clenched a-hole the whole time and lose 1-0 or maybe 2-0. Portugal look like a mess.

He is referring to the fact that if Germany win by 5 or 6 and we win vs Ghana and tie Portugal while Ghana probably loses to Germany, then our Goal differential will be 6 or 7 over Portugal.
Meaning if we lost by one to Germany Portugal would have to win by 5 or 6 to go thru ahead of us.
Of course we want to beat Portugal.

I would play CR just because I don't want to give the illusion that I've completely given up (embarrassing to national pride), but I'd pull him out around the 60th-65th minute.
