It's just annoying how much we lacked pragmatism.

That first half was some of the most cohesive soccer we've played at a World Cup. The staff and the players knew Wales was going to but 11 behind the ball, we had a plan and executed it. But it's like in the lead up to this match, we never really accounted for how Wales would play should we get a goal and force them to be more aggressive. It's almost like we were so used to not scoring in the first half under Gregg, that we just assumed it would be 0-0 until like the 75th minute when we finally scored and give Wales not much time to react.

When in theory, we should've found even more openings in attacking areas once we took that first half lead because we forced Wales out of their comforting bunker. Just a total failure to adapt to the match.

We had more completed passes in the first half than we had in any half ever in a World Cup game.

But then we shite the bed the second half. I think part of it is tactical inflexibility on Gregg’s part, but I think others are underestimating the inexperience of our players and lack of team cohesion (never playing together because of injuries, form, etc).

Greggggg thinks we get points from this. Hence “we don’t need him to score 5 goals”

Yes. The first half was impressive. Idk what the frick that second half was supposed to be tactically.

When we need more creativity and vision in the attack, what does he do? He brings on a racehorse with blinders.

Yep. It's going to take some time.

All this arguing over who the USMNT manager is "lazy" and an easy out honestly.

When Moore came in he was able to hold up the ball and let their wingbacks finally get up the pitch. We pinned them in the whole 1st half because Bale and Dan James couldn't control a pass.

Like Broski said, the pitch should have opened up and it did. Unfortunately it looked like they never practiced a counterattack. Ampadu was a one-man wrecking machine stopping counters and a lot of play through the middle.

Yedlin?

ETA: You were talking about Kiefer, my b, I had USMNT on the brain.

Anyway, here's a video of all of our counter opportunities in the 2nd half. Pulisic and Aaronson with some particularly awful decisions.

Well that was frustrating af to watch.

Who hit that backheel pass at 55s? That was erection inducing.

Pulisic’s decision making is so so bad at times. Just release the ball early and move to a new space. Aaronson wasn’t as egregious but still guilty at times. Musah had some missteps too.

Robinson HAS to hit that ball at 1:45 to the back post. He made the 80 yard sprint to get there, so it was sad to see nothing come of it.

A lot of these clips show our naivety and inexperience.

Ughhhhhhh

Gregg having us press in spots was the right move bc we wouldn’t see much of the ball

But after 60 mins what the frick

Not being productive with subs when players were gassed

Instead he was reactive to what Southgate did

Gio brought on way toooooo late

Shaq are you fricking serious. He was shite out there

England were below their standard and we didn’t take advantage at all

Once Hendo came on it was clear England was ok with sharing the points and we basically did the same.

Get him out of here

Not constantly pressing was the correct tactical move

But we still got tired and his was reactive with his subs

Rightfully so. We were dominating the game in the second half prior to Henderson and Grealish entering.

The reality is we don’t have many good substitutes to make. Aaronson and Reyna are the only high quality players available off the bench.

To be fair to Gregg, we were trying to sub Aaronson on for a solid 7-8 minutes before finally having the opportunity to do so. The ball stayed in play for a crazy amount of time.

Ideally, Aaronson and Reyna would have come on around the 65th minute when England were starting to seize momentum back.

I hate playing it short on corner kicks and free kicks so much. It wastes such a great opportunity, and rarely works. I don’t know if Gregg told CP to play it short in that last free kick or he decided to do that himself, but what a waste. Serve it into the box and hope for a header from Ream or Zimmerman.

My only thought is Berhalter didn’t want to get caught on a counter because a point today was huge. However, I don’t think the ref would have given England time to counter.

Agree 100%. Even if they would have nicked it at end, he got his tactics correct; pinch me.

Substitutions were too late but at least Reyna saw the pitch.
