There was NO player vote taken regarding his status with the team. The storyline of “13-12” is wrong confirmed to me just moments ago. There was a vote among the staff who worked for GB including fitness personnel & asst coaches.
Loll
So who came up with that storyline? If it’s Gregg or someone doing his bidding, seems like they have to fire him before the team meets again.
Can we all agree at least that this is a big story overall? It’s nice to have some drama to chew on.

We feel like a legit international side now, with all the drama that goes with it. I kind of dig it. I’m hoping USSF and GGG just part their ways with his contract running out and we can bring in some new blood.

Kinda crazy to me that there are a hundred talking points coming from this story and none of them are aimed at Gio needing to sack up and not be a prick during the World Cup.
And yes you can hate Gregg and think he handled the situation poorly while also acknowledging that Gio has a lot of growing to so if he wants to be a leader on this National team.

Apparently Yedlin and Long sat Gio aside and talked to him about his lack of effort YEDLIN and LONG shite would carry no weight for me. Those dudes fricking suck
Thankfully the story suggests Gio heard what these guys were saying.
Yedlin shined when pressed into action in the World Cup in 2014 and parlayed that into a move to the premier league. He had a career where he pushed himself to the highest levels his talents could reasonably take him.
Gio is no doubt more talented than those two, but If Gio has the attitude you expressed he will join the ranks of talented 20 year olds who become forgettable 30 year olds.

Rumors that Adams tried to fight Gio at practice

Holy shite.
Edit: I realize dust ups happen on every team, but given the context, this sounds like a much bigger deal than your usual loss of temper during training.

LOL at anyone still thinking the narrative should be Gregg vs Gio
Posted on 12/12/22 at 10:48 am to Broski
I think in every game I’ve watched Gio play, he’s always had moments where he’s pouting or looking pissed off at teammates if they didn’t pass him the ball. He needs to grow up ASAP

Next at 10, a cocky teenage athlete needs to grow up. Back to you Jim.

Teammates fighting on the pitch...Ohnoz!

I'm starting to see this a different way. You have to give Greggg credit on this one.
Pitting a 13v12 formation demonstrates his best offensive game-planning we've seen from him so far.

A few posters sway the discourse here in a certain way. What you describe is the general sentiment on r/ussoccer (which goes 50/50 pro/anti GGG). Most people think he handled the Gio situation fine. I don’t use Instagram or Twitter (younger demos) but it’s pretty heavily anti-GGG and more “Gio is a star he can do what he want.” The ESPN and Athletic articles about this issue focuses more on Gio being a prick and having to apologize to the team.

You make this statement like it’s not a big deal. Being a prick and not taking training seriously at the fricking World Cup is a different level than your standard teenage dbag story. I think Gio will turn it around, but we didn’t see these kinds of attitude problems from Adams, Weah, Pulisic, etc at Gio’s age.

Well of course, but this entire thread is based on rumors at this point, with the evolving storyline changing multiple times so far.

It's really not. It happens all the time on all levels. Unfortunately, Greggg made it a big deal by breaking the bro code of "leaving it on the pitch".
Now the USSF has no other choice but to move on from Greggg, so there's that.

You know many teenagers that are stud athletes that have poor attitudes because of immaturity? I'm willing to bet a shite load but their coach/manager keeps it out of the press for obvious reasons. Not exonerating Gio but it's a bad look to speak about it imo.

Here we are 6 months after the U20s had a brawl with costa rica.

To be fair, I think everyone should brawl with at least on Costa Rican in their adolescence if they want to be considered a true American

Gio just posted a response on Instagram. Nothing earth shattering but called out Gregg for publicizing the matter.
