D.C. United and U.S. national team striker Eddie Johnson could be facing a premature end to his playing career.
According to a tweet from the Washington Post's Steven Goff, lawyers and the MLS Players' Union have gotten involved as a means to settle Johnson's contract with the team due to health issues.
Johnson has yet to train or play with D.C. United in any capacity this season as he sought treatment and diagnosis for an unreleased heart condition.
Goff previously reported that Johnson first noticed the condition on the eve of United's Eastern Conference semifinal second leg game against the New York Red Bulls. The striker was diagnosed with an enlarged heart then, but was cleared to play and came on as a 60th-minute substitute in the game.

Although I've always thought he was way over rated and cringed whenever he was playing for the USMNT against any non-Caribbean team, I hate to hear about any player that has to retire early.
Hope he lands on his feet.

When he came off the bench and ran right into that header in the Gold Cup I went nuts. I hope everything goes ok for him.

That was this goal. LD (
He had some clutch goals in WCQ, too. Panama, A&B (I think) Mexico.
Sucks for his career to be prematurely ended. I'm really curious what kind of issue would fail to be picked up until this late.

That is my favorite GAM play. First touch, goal.
What a badass.
Also, Landon has the best delivery I have ever seen on corners in my super biased mind.

This was my first and only time seeing the national team in person...
March of 2005 against Guatemala. Probably Eddie Johnson's best game for us. What's not included in this video is a fricking sweet bike that barely gets saved.

My first cap as well. Midfield, 8 rows up. Amazing night - but a really poor choice to drive from Baton Rouge - Birmingham - back to Baton Rouge in the same "day."

Goodnight sweet prince, killer of low-end CONCACAF teams.

When Deuce retires they should definitely open up a chain of BBQ joints

Ah yes back when Eddie and Brian Ching liked each other.

These cannot go unnoticed, the Mexico goal was just a powerful header, the Panama goal was a nicely timed run against a high line and the A&B goals single-handedly won us that match in his first real game back after a long exile.
