Hilarious that the US is ahead of England. They mad, real mad.

Obviously the FIFA rankings isn't a great indicator of how good a team is. That said, they have nothing to be mad about. Take out the name recognition factor, and compare recent results. In a mathematical calculation which ignores roster talent and only observes results, it's pretty easy to see why the USA is higher.

Is this factoring in the Costa Rica loss?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but losses aren't a negative, they just don't earn you points. So it's a subtraction because of no addition in the given time frame.

CAF is such a terrible organization, worse than FIFA and CONCACAF. Why waste a qualifying cycle with a group stage when the entire qualification comes down to two games? A bunch of good teams are getting screwed because FIFA rankings determine seeding. AFCON is a terrible waste of time for everyone involved besides corrupt CAF officials.

Your second sentence doesn't make much sense. That's like saying why waste the season playing 16 games in the NFL if it going to come down to three games.
This is the first time they have used this format and I think it's interesting.
Maybe they can change how they determine the pots but the format is just fine.

You know FIFA is going to frick over Egypt in the draw. Will be surprised if they don't get Ivory Coast or Ghana.

In the past, the committee used a team’s performances in previous World Cup tournaments, combined with its FIFA world ranking, to determine seeds. For the 2006 World Cup in Germany, three years of FIFA rankings (2004-6 valued equally) were also considered, after performance in the 2002 and 1998 World Cup tournaments. In 2002, performance in the previous three World Cups (weighted) and three years of FIFA rankings were used. Then in 2010 FIFA decided to 'change' their ranking system and only use the latest FIFA rankings in the seeding process.

If they used just rankings in 2006 the US gets a seed as they were ranked 7th in October. FIFA will use whichever method doesn't give the US a group seed.

Doesn't matter what seed we were in 06.

Except for the Italian game, our play certified that we did not belong in the tourney. We played poorly in all aspects of the game.

Seeding for the World Cup explained

I don't really care for the FIFA rankings, but they do matter once every 4 years.

Our group was the most difficult. And yes, I agree that we played poorly.

Or we get a seed in 06 and we're not in the group of death.
