Also, viewership for the final up to 4.1 million from 3.8 million. Smaller increase, but the overall viewership was WAY up.

"The powers that be" are going to shite bricks when all of the Brasil 2014 games are broadcast in prime time.

I would love to see a comparison to US sports. Obviously the ratings won't touch the NFL, but I imagine they are about on par with NBA, NHL and MLB.
Great signs especially considering all matches were broadcasted in the early afternoon.

You have no idea how pumped I am about WC 2014 being on a realistic western hemisphere time schedule.
Most of relevant Brazil is only an hour ahead of me on the east coast. Awesome.

Have they released any #s on the live streams for ESPN3 or was that included in the reported 1.3M. I suspect a large % of people followed online while at work.

When were the games shown in 1994?
Major Brazilian cities are an hour ahead of eastern time. But the World Cup usually goes from June 10 to July 10 or so. This is a nightmare for ESPN because of the NBA playoffs, although I think the NBA championships will be the only thing left by June 10.
How will they fit their contractual obligations with Major League Baseball and whatever else they show at primetime?

A lot of this has to do with ESPN going all in with it this time around.
Yeah, they showed it before, but the presentation was nowhere near to what it was this year. Plus, Sportscenter and the like reported on many storylines so the non-fans/casual fans could watch a game and feel atleast some sense of familiarity.

That's really encouraging. I know they voted it down for next year, but it would be really cool to see some EPL games make the continent in the future.

Average viewership for this year's Stanley Cup Finals in the States was 2.98 million a game.

The majority were daytime, I think. If you look at highlights and photos, everything is during the day.

I had several people at my office stop and ask me about the tournament because they know I follow it. These are people that really have no interest in soccer whatsoever. But, they knew it was going on and which teams were competing. A big step up from years past.

Same here. I will using PTO if need be to watch the US if we play early afternoon. Better than 4 AM whatever it is.

2006 was the first time we got legit and well rounded WC coverage in the US. It only got bigger in 2010 and I have no doubt 2014 will be the biggest yet.
