He will be on the decline by then. I'm tired of his attitude anyway. Never been a leader and always seemed scared to force his way out of the MLS to the EPL where he could have further improved as a player. He is the total opposite of Dempsey.

Well he shouldn't be given the luxury of wait-and-see, that's for sure. If's he's not playing, say it now so we can solidify the starting lineup/formation without him and work out the kinks.

Ok. Well I guess we should do the same with all of our players, right? Let's not see if their form improves or declines. Let's decide more than a year and a half in advance if they are coming to WC 2014. Stupid.

he'll play in the cup, will he be as good as always? meh probably not, but he'll still be needed for his experience and even not at 100%, he is still too valuable to leave at home.
and yes his attitude does suck, but he has been doing this for over a decade now, its hard to keep the drive up for that long.

Landycakes is a big vah jay jay. His posturing only slows the development of other players. I'm glad he's at least being honest about it, though, so others can start filling his shoes.

I disagree.
I appreciate him being brutally honest about his position right now. Remember that this is the end of his MLS season, and the guy's tired and nursing an injury.
For all that his done for US Soccer over the years, I think you're crazy if you think he doesn't deserve a roster spot if he decides to play in 2014. He doesn't have to be your starter, but he has done too much for the team to get tossed aside.
I respect his honesty and hope he can make it down to Brazil in two years.

I'd love to see GAM continue to develop on a wing. Remember that Chandler and F. Johnson are also capable wingers. Shea is still a big stack of potential, and there's always the chance someone will have a Herculez-esque ascension into the squad.

I think he'll be there, but I'm not sure he will be a starter at that point. Question is whether his ego can handle him being a 20 minutes a game impact sub...

I'm not saying that we don't have depth there. It's just that he deserves a spot if he decides to play. Again, he doesn't have to be a starter.

That's what I'm thinking. I don't think he should start for the USMNT anymore...and I'd like to think he would want to go out on a WC run, even if it's as an impact sub.

He's still definitely a top 5 player for me on the USMNT, so if he's healthy and willing, he should at least go into camp with the opportunity to earn the start. IOW no other winger should be penciled in before him.
I would like to see FJ get some time in the mf too. Seems like he could work on either wing. Too valuable to the D right now, though. Parkhurst looked just ok for me.

I think he's finally tired of the LA Galaxy. He liked being MLS's darling and it took forever for someone new (read: Chris Wondolowski) to finally step into that role. Now that he won a championship with the Beckham Brand Galaxy, he lacks motivation.
These interviews could be meant to negotiate a lower transfer fee, should Everton come knocking at MLS's door come January.

i think he is still starting. he will still be pretty good and definitely better than whoever could replace him. he's just being a frick with these quotes. he will be on the squad and starting.

Wondo is MLS's darling?
he's almost as old as Donovan and has barely been an afterthought for the usmnt. Whose the next mls darling, Alan Gordon? I really enjoyed the article. I've always had problems with Donovan's attitude and perceived lack of drive but clearly he has done a lot of maturing over the last several years. I have a feeling he makes one more run with everton after next season and retires from international play post WC2014.

Age has little to do with who MLS decides to promote. Wondo is about to break the seasonal goal scoring record, and is easily the best player in the league over the past two seasons.
There are plenty of younger players for MLS promote, but none have come close to matching the production of Wondo. Graham Zusi will likely finish second in the MVP voting, but isn't even close to matching Wondo's value to San Jose.
