Taking a bit of sick pleasure in this. Decides to leave Fulham to search for CL football at Spirs of all places. Guess he stands a good chance at CCL football though.

I think this move helps Eddie, brad evans, and maybe even deandre yedlin too. It's cool that a lot of USMNT guys are joining up on different teams

Would the addition of Dempsey at Seattle enable the Sounders to be the first MLS team to win the CCL?

I hope this doesn't start an arms race in the MLS. League can't afford it just yet I think.

Well considering who owns NYCFC I'm pretty sure they are going to burn some cash.

I just don't think the TV contract nor the ratings will justify spending lots of money, for maybe another six years. I think the league is at least 10 years away from paying salaries on par with even the Scandinavian countries.

Agree with everything except the Scandinavian comment. I think we're close to being at their level already. They're not paying guys all that well if Swedish guys are running to piece of shite towns in the middle of Turkey for $300,000-$500,000 contracts that aren't even guaranteed.

And the point about Liga MX made earlier was also valid.

Well one of the downfalls of the NASL was the Cosmos spending like crazy. Atleast we have more than one big spending team though.

In a nutshell, could someone explain to me why the MLS teams salaries are lower compared to other leagues? Do these teams just have super low spending caps? Is there anything preventing an owner from spending massive amounts of money to bring several top level players in?(assuming they'd want to come to MLS)

Maybe you are right with Scadanvia. I couldn't find the average salary of a Swedish footballer, but the non-DP average salary in MLS was around $100,000, which was very surprising.

I suppose we should be worried if MLS teams spend big money to bring players under 30 here, which we haven't really seen. The league has done an excellent job of building the league to this point, but I'd like for the league to continue to grow at a slow and steady rate.

Salaries of at least one of the Scandanavian leagues are public. They are not too impressive, especially considering the COL.

I wonder how JK feels about the move away from Europe. I think the armband goes back to Howard or to Cherundolo if he's back.
