I was told once that the USWNT was the equivalent of men's U-19 select

Could a high school boys soccer team beat a World Cup women's team?
yes
unless it was Bornstein's high school team

You are talking about 2003, that was 7 years ago. Chances are the team has probably gotten better since then. Girls can play just as well as the guys, but girls playing against girls is a totally different thing than men vs. men. Men play at a much faster pace, women play slower against other women. The womens game is very physical and is more start/stop. The mens game is very fluid, but has more brutal tackling and such. When I played soccer, I played on the guys club team, and we went to west coast regionals. I scored 1/3 of all the goals and had most of the assists. If women were given a chance to play with men, we would be able to prove that we are as good as the guys. They should play with the men, but they are almost never given the opportunity. If my high school team could beat the freshmen boys team, then I am pretty sure that a professional womens team can beat “grammar” school boys
lol

Someone recently told me that a high school team (probably select, just of high school age) beat the US Women's world champion team back when the US Women's team won the WC. I have nothing to verify this other word of mouth from someone (and I do not even remember who), but I would say yes, if it were an elite high school team.

do you guys think the Spanish men's team could beat the USWNT by 30?
Posted on 6/26/11 at 11:53 pm to TheSexecutioner
what do you think then? 15-0. 20-0?
Posted on 6/26/11 at 11:56 pm to LfcSU3520
I may be wrong, but I don't think there is enough time to score 30 goals because Spain are a team with a lot of build-up play to reach the goal. They are talented enough to do it, but not with their current style of play.

if they played fifty times, i'd imagine that at least one of those games would have a spread that came close to that number
though, i'd be more interested to see them try to keep the ball for as many consecutive minutes as possible

Patrick Mullins would have scored a hat trick.
he came out of high school the same year I did. I heard conflicting reports that he was either: a) incredibly talented and might have a shot for the USMNT and b) that he was pretty good but you could really limit him if your backline played disciplined and forced him to his weaker foot
I'm assuming the first claim was an exaggeration. The second claim was from a friend of mine who was GK on a high school team that faced him a decent amount. What's his ceiling?

interestingly, this kind of just came up in the mexico-england women's world cup game.
*spoilers*
a mexican player hit a really nice shot that beat the english goalkeeper at her near post from about 30 yds out.
one announcer (i'm assuming a former women's player) said something about how women's goalkeepers wouldn't usually see shots like that (it was driven well and moving some) unless they are scrimmaging u16 or u17 boys teams.

I don't, but I do have experience playing a girls team. I was on a U-16 team at the time, playing for a decent youth club. Never did much at state, and certainly never made it to regionals.
Well the U-18 girl side of our club had just won State, and they set up a scrimmage with our team to prepare for regional's.
They were talking all types of smack. before the game, about how they were better, going to beat our arse yada, yada, yada...it was 12 or 13 nothing by half time.
We were told by our coach to quit scoring, to only play two touch, and had to pass it backward to retain possession once we were in scoring position.
Which I thought was more demeaning than running up the score even more.
There is no doubt in my mind that a high level U-17 or U-18 team would absolutely wreck a Women's WC team.
Same with basketball...there are probably 10 high school Basketball teams in Memphis, that would absolutely demolish a WNBA team.

Stop comparing the US women's team to a regular college team or girls club team. The difference between these two is immense. No Louisiana high school team in the last 10 years would beat the US women's national team

Just to name three from Louisiana could easily beat a womens team. Hell, Newman probably could.
don't forget us down in Houma - Vandebilt Catholic
I'd be willing to bet that our teams from my 8th - 10th grade years (2002-2005) at VCH would be pretty competitive with a top college women's team. I doubt they could take an international squad...maybe one of the worst ones. We had some pretty badass squads back then. Could be completely wrong though...

Because a sport where height is the number one attribute is a good parallel to soccer.
