MLS needs to get on the regular football calendar

You’re right, I’ve heard winter games in Montreal and Minnesota are exhilarating.

In all seriousness I think being on the normal calendar with a winter break like the Scandinavian leagues do would be cool, but I doubt it ever happens.

Just gonna post some facts here.

MLS wins over Liga MX in CCL:

2008-2017: 2
2018-2021: 7

quote:

MLS IS NOW 4-3 AGAINST LIGA MX CLUBS SINCE LAST YEAR

quote:

Toronto FC, with 5 starters, a bunch of back-ups and academy kids, just knocked the reigning Liga MX champions out of the CCL.

quote:

For the first time ever, @MLS will have 5 teams in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League

I honestly don't give a shite about MLS, but now I hope one of the 5 wins CCL just to see how you talk your way out of giving the league any credit.

When the league started I was in college anticipating matches on the weekend just to watch El Pibe thread 1 pass to Roy Lassiter to satisfy my craving. It was great because I thought “this is year 1, think about year 25 when the whole team will be on the level of those 2!”.

I thought that by now the owners would have ditched the single entity as the base would be solid enough to stay afloat unlike the NASL. My interest has since gone as the league still has its marquee names but it could be so much better (the team as a whole). It’s just really frustrating. Here in Houston, the ownership group has no drive to win. They bring in cheap foreigners and expect people to care. This is a very savvy football town; people see right through it and don’t support the team even though they have a great stadium downtown. It’s a shame

That’s because despite most clubs operating in the red, the owners actually make a frick ton of money

They aren’t actually investing in MLS, but owning an MLS franchise gives them a stake in the overall tv market of the country. So they make money on every match from every league shown in America.

Is this any different from soccer in other countries?

Is that a serious question?

Not to be a dick but this show a real lack of knowledge about the sport and it’s make up structure/history

An overwhelming majority of clubs are sporting clubs to serve the local area and fans

They just try and break even that’s the main goal

The MLS scheme is way different

Of course you have clubs like United, Liverpool and Arsenal where the owners want to milk the club dry of all profits. But that’s not the norm.

Crazy4lsu can do a really good break down of it for you

It just amazes me that honest questions are answered like this. Just seeking knowledge and the response is something insulting.

I know low level clubs, even in the prem, are just trying to break even. Clubs like arsenal, Chelsea, etc, have owners that siphon money off the top. For those teams it doesn’t seem all that different from any other franchise in the US.

Nah bro

Money isn’t an object to them

You need to read up on why MLS isn’t a profitable league but the owners make money still and a frick ton just not from MLS

It’s actually kinda fricked up
