Bro, prepare your arse for a pummeling.

I think Clint's awesome and could end up being at the top when he retires from national duty, but this is the last forum where a Landon Donovan hit piece will ever fly.

yeah there was a time when i thought clint would surpass landycakes

bradley, too

then both came to America and took a major downward trajectory. Landon made coming home work, somehow

I am surprised you were so high on Dempsey. Clint has always been too lazy and selfish in games for that. He was (and somewhat still is) a very solid player, but he was below Landon.

That is definitely fair. The ceiling was looking sky high at one point. Those 45 minutes in Mexico

I do think Pulisic is our best prospect since Landon.

Because he was great. My biggest qualm was that I was sure he could be an Everton great, and I was bitter that he didn't want to.

If Landon stays in England, I'm convinced he becomes an unstoppable little wizard loved worldwide.

Clint has that same "gene", but he only plays when he decides he needs to. It's infuriating.

he scored like 20 goals in the EPL when the EPL was awesome

*from the midfield

landon never did anything close to that in a real league. when he'd play with everton he was a decent supporting guy

I've always found the pure hatred for Donovan that some have to be fascinating.

Like it's cool if you don't like the guy, I can see that, but the pure vitriol that a lot had for him (even before the sabbatical) was just odd. Statistically, he is far and away the best player the US has ever produced and you would think, for program with not a lot of history, that he would be at the very least nationally respected by the us fans.

Yeah, he was all-EPL XI one year. Great point

It was amazing, but Landon just has the qualities that you want in his first touch, finishing, pace, movement, and strike of the ball. I know you will hate this statement, but he definitely passes the eye test a lot more for me. I see a lot of those qualities in Pulisic, and I am so excited for him.

I have tried to temper my expectations for young american players but there is something about his game, great first touch, good vision, and poise that is hard not to get a little excited about honestly.

There's one major reason why the title will never be true:
Landy played with heart and left it all on the field. He was not the fastest. Biggest. Or most skilled. But you could count on him in big moments.
Clint plays with a chip on his shoulder and his anger leads to frustrated laziness. It's a bad combo.
