That video finally explained to me all of the angles of offsides. I always wondered if your entire body has to be behind the second to last defendar, and the answer is that all of body other than your arms have to be behind. This was a very helpful video.

Thanks to all for the feedback and the information. It makes more sense now and I can see how it works. Watching 10-11 year olds play, it is frustrating when it keeps getting called on what looks like a two on one fast break and it seems that the offense is penalized because the defense didn't get back in time. These aren't long balls and cherry-picking but actual good dribbling and plays by the offense trying to make a play on the goal. My son has had the ball about to shoot several times and the player running alongside of him ran just a bit too fast, I guess. Frustrating to watch.
The overall concept does make more sense now, though. Thanks for explaining it. I know very little about the sport beyond the obvious "try to kick the ball in the goal" stuff. This helps.

Somehow the coach gets to thinking that the attackers would be offside because they are closer to the goal than the 2nd to last defender. Never mind the fact that they are not closer to the goal than the ball at the time it is played, Law 11 says you are not offside if you receive the ball directly from a corner.
If the ball were played directly from the corner to an attacker who is closer to the goal than the second to last defender, there is no call to make. Attacker is not offside, and play continues.

Don't know if I saw this posted but also there is no offsides on a throw-in.

Attacking players are behind the ball.

I don't think the vast majority of soccer fans will ever change in that regard.
A couple years ago, two of my friends who rarely post came on here. One follows professional/international soccer moderately and played in high school. Another is a division 1 athlete and a fan of pretty much every sport. Both are some of the most rational, intelligent people I have ever met. They started a thread trying to discuss the idea of increasing the goal dimensions to create a statistically more correct sport (which is objectively true) and basically got shat on for it.

Basically, an increased amount of goals would enlarge the sample size to more accurately reflect the disparity in two teams' quality. It's a pretty big flaw in the sport, whether people will acknowledge it or not. I enjoy baseball, but I am willing to admit that the sport is horrendously flawed, to the extent that the game is irreparable.
To be fair, they received some pretty good rebuttal, but there was a healthy amount of herp derping going on. Lots of "the rest of the world doesn't want more goals" or "aint broke, dont fix it" type of responses that involved the same level of sophistication you may see in your everyday obama voter.

I have another question about offside calls.
I always thought, if you intercepted a pass from a defender, you aren't off. As in, you are only off if you receive a pass from a teammate.
Last season a Dynamo player was called off when he stepped in front of a pass back to the keeper. I argued that it shouldn't have been called. Was I correct?
