On a similar note, there are a lot of star players that are coming off the bench/non-starters that surprised me:

Diego Forlan
Fernando Torres
David Villa
Bastian Schweinsteiger
Lucas Podolski
Miroslav Klose
Didier Drogba
Frank Lampard
Michael Essien

Maybe I'm just getting old, and these guys aren't as good as they used to be? But dang... I mean Forlan was the golden boot winner in 2010...

Old (90% of them), hurt (Schweini), or shite (Torres).

Bony over Drogba is mind-boggling.

That was also 4 years ago.

He was on form at the end of the season, but he's been absolutely terrible (apart from the goal out of nowhere).

Lol a lot changes in 4 years. Heck, a lot changes in 2 years. Klose is 36, and Forlan and Lampard aren't much younger.

shite, Lampard looked awful in 2010.

Drogba is 36 years old. He's good for limited time, but not starting.

The guy played 90 a game multiple times in arguably the most violent league in Europe.

Is there a more violent league? Maybe one of the really shitty ones I've never seen in Eastern Europe...

One nobody has mentioned yet is Robert Lewandowski. He's definitely up there.

But definitely Zlatan and Bale are top two IMO. Seeing Zlatan tonight in the stands during the England/Uruguay game was heartbreaking to me

He made it through multiple games where players were hacking at him and knocking him down since they are unskilled oafs playing for cheap owners who don't want to get better players. He's not a 30 minute man even if he isn't as prolific now.

I'll see your Lewandowski and raise you an Aaron Ramsey.

Staying on your feet in the Turkish league is not going to win you a World Cup. Drogba has talent and he can still be explosive, but you can't expect him to play 90 minutes. No way.

Lewandowski is a great one that we'd forgotten.

Ivory Coast isn't going to win the World Cup anyways.
