who would we go after to replace 2 starting spots in mid? Cesc should give us a hefty penny to spend on some immediate impact player at least.
Identifying a player that fits our qualities is hard enough. We could go after Hamsik from Napoli, though I think we will have plenty of options in the team. An option I'd love to have is Javi Martinez, though I doubt he'll leave Bilbao. Nuri Sahin was my ideal replacement, but he went to Real. Kwando Asamoah from Udinese is another option I'd love. Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla is another player who could fill in. A more likely option would be someone like Marvin Martin from Sochaux. He played exceedingly well this year. Alan Dzagoev would be great here as well. Since we are looking to get bigger, Moussa Sissoko would add a lot. Christen Eriksen would be excellent. Ever Banega would be a dream signing, as would Pastore, though he's too expensive. Mario Gotze would be superb. There are plenty of options if Cesc leaves, although none would be immediately as good.
I imagine we'll go with a combo of Wilshere/Ramsey/Diaby/Song/new CM (and perhaps Lansbury) at first. Then we'll struggle because Ramsey likes to play deeper and is less likely to play the final ball, though his distribution to the wings is usually superb. Wilshere might move up higher on the pitch, a role where he might excel.
Tactically we might have a little more leeway, as we moved to 3 midfielders after it became obvious that Cesc couldn't play in a 2 man midfield due to his poor defending and lack of pace(2007-2008 was an anomaly due to the workrate of Flamini combined with the defensive discipline of Rosicky and Hleb). Basically without Cesc we'll be more mobile, which might help our counterattacking game.
As for Nasri, his future is on the wing whether he wants to admit it or not. The game is moving to the wing, players that once played centrally are now being played on the wing. That's where he wants to play, and that's to his detriment. He's excellent when he decides he wants to be on the end of moves, rather than the beginning of them.
I'd hope we get a winger, a real one, and not a converted attacking midfielder. I'd like to see someone like Hazard, Ayew, Gervinho, Menez, Mata, or Cazorla. If Miyachi can get a work permit, I think he'd add a lot to our wings.
So if we do sell Nasri and Fabregas, we might as well embrace our status as the finishing school for raw youngsters who frick off once they begin to look good.

I'd be more mad that Nasri left because I just got his kit. That'd be a waste of a hunnerd dollars right there.

Get a Wilshere kit. I wanna get an Aaron Ramsey kit. And maybe an Arsenal snuggie.

I want to get an Eboue-themed retainer, the really complex kind that includes a headset that connects to the mouthpiece that you only wear at night.
It's Eboue themed in that there is no functioning method to its orthdontics, it just sarcastically poses itself has possessing erudite knowledge of such practices. The product is themed off his antics with the North Korean national team coach at the World Cup
Dennish Byeergkamp... does he have eyes as big as jolly ranchers?

If Cesc and Nasri leave, and I agree that all the smoke seems to be leaning toward that happening, its going to be a fun summer for transfers at Arsenal! AW won't know what to do with all that $$$$. Conservative estimates put us with a £30-35mil transfer kitty pre-sales. Selling Cesc, Nasri, Clichy, Denilson, Bendtner, Rosicky, et al would add at least £75mil to that (again, conservative estimates). With that cash and the right purchases, we'd probably be better off without Cesc and Nasri.
If we did do that, I would hope that one of the purchases would be a big, big name/impact player like a Sanchez. Mainly I just want Sanchez so I can make some Dirty Sanchez joke every time he does something good.

The only way I will be happy with Nasri leaving is if we buy Hazard to replace him.

If you believe the rumors, the Lille winger we're getting (this week?) is Gervinho, not Hazard. After taking a step back and considering it, I'm not going to be too crushed if Nasri leaves. Obviously he's talented, but his play doesn't stack up to what he wants to get paid. If he's going to make a big deal about it, let him go.

That reminds me, I wouldn't mind splashing some cash for Neymar.

We already have an arrogant a-hole striker...his name is Beowulf.
Neymar wants Christiano Ronaldo money. We would have to sell Cesc and Nasri for Neymar.

Nah, Lucas da Silva is going to be the next superstar me thinks. I'd rather go after him.

We could swap Denilson back to Sao Paolo for him

I'm going to agree I'm not that concerned about losing Nasri. Losing Fabregas does concern me, losing both really concerns me, but Nasri alone can be replaced. He had that great streak for a while but then really faded. He can be replaced fairly reasonably.
I like the potential Gervinho signing, but only if he is being brought in to replace Bendtner.

It's not going to happen. At the very least, we have a board of directors who won't put up with this type of thing. Barca's pride is stopping them from paying full value for Cesc.

Oh i know, but it's the insulting gesture that I fricking loathe.
Posted on 6/7/11 at 9:20 am to Early Cuyler
They want to avoid a Cesc situation in the future, as we continue to poach their youth players. From their end it's completely understandable. Arsenal won't do it though since it makes little sense in any regard. Barca knows it will take a lot more money. I have a strong feeling that Arsenal leaked this to the media.

Not that I trust the British papers completely, but they keep saying that Madrid, Inter, and Man City are offering £50M. Why do these £30M Barca rumors persist if that is the case? It only makes Barca look arrogant and ignorant and increases the likelihood that he will end up somewhere else.
