Apparently Coyle is pissed off at Vela's agent. Would have liked to see him at Bolton, but he'll probably get more PT at West Brom.

press conference roundup
nice preview from UEFA of Arsenal v. Barca
Also, Koscielny has been called up to play for the French National Team
quote:
** Surgery rules Fabianski out for season
** Samir Nasri expected back in three weeks
** Thomas Vermaelen 'three to four' weeks from return
** Song likely to miss Newcastle; Walcott should be available
** Wenger: 'If Cesc was guilty he would be charged'
** Manager agrees there is 'witch-hunt' against Fabregas
** Wenger would not spend £35million on a player
** Chelsea still a threat on all fronts, says Wenger
** Wenger: 'I have great respect for Gary Neville'
** Nasri contract will be sorted 'in the summer'

Wasn't Koscielny basically in the second division of France two years ago? Pretty nice rise by him.

I'm not sure if you guys have seen this: 2010 Coupe de la Ligue Semi-Final between Bordeaux and Lorient. This game took place last February between Koscielny and Chamakh's former teams. Kos scored and then was sent off for fouling Chamakh in the box. Chamakh also scored later in the game, which Bordeaux won 4-1.

Shots fired again by an Arsenal player on Twitter.
Don't know how long before it's deleted, but here's the link
Does the FA fine for sarcasm?

@53Szczesny53 It is hard to make any comments on today's game without using the magic word "referee"... Thought he was brilliant today...

I hope Djourou's knee injury isn't bad...this is the reason I wanted an insurance CB in January. If he's out for weeks/months, we're beyond screwed. I would hope we would call Kyle Bartley back.

Miyachi had his debut for Feyenoord today. Looks to be quite the talent. Young Guns says his new teammates are calling him "The new Messi." Here's a link to the highlights of the match. He features quite extensively in them.

Also Wenger has apparently said he would like Dragan Stojkovic to be his successor.

So Djourou is out for 4-6 weeks. More likely than ever that we'll lose both ties to Barca now, and I'm pessimistic about making a legit title push without him as well. Blargh.
on a slightly positive note, well, sort of, RvP and Cesc have withdrawn from their respective NT call-ups. They both claim to have a stomach bug. Hope it's a Steven Gerrard-esque pardon where everything is actually okay and they just wanted to rest.

Well frick my life. Hopefully we win the Carling Cup at least.

Not sure we can win the Carling Cup with Squillaci and Koscielny. Zigic will destroy them. Djourou started in both of our wins this season versus Birmingham.

Totally agreed. Losing Djourou basically takes us out of every competition except the Carling Cup. Ah, this is so frustrating that we did nothing.

Zigic has only scored four league goals all season. I'm not afraid of that matchup, even if it's the Kos/Squillaci pairing.
I was also thinking, what CBs could we lure out of retirement until Vermaelen gets back? Desailly? Thuram? Maldini?

Arsenal's CB are made of freaking glass. How can they not manage to stay healthy, or when injured not have extended periods of reoccurring injuries.
Posted on 2/7/11 at 11:24 am to NOTORlOUSD
Zigic doesn't have to score goals to hurt us. He just has to win aerial battles and we'll be vulnerable on knockdowns as we have been all year.
What a bummer this season is likely to end up being (even if we win the CC). So close...

This is a fantastic Beowulf story that might even merit its own thread. Apparently his confidence literally is off the charts.

The good news is, barring injury, starting next season we will actually have 3 quality CB's. That will probably last for a week.

Could be 4. We're still getting linked to the running-out-of-contract Sakho and Kyle Bartley will get his chance with the first team next year. He looks like he could be good.

Speaking of next season's defense, I'm excited to see Botelho join us (fingers crossed his work permit goes through). Did some reading on our 'top prospects' and he seems to reap high praise. With Clichy, Gibbs, and Boetlho there should be significant competition.
Posted on 2/7/11 at 12:33 pm to Leauxgan
Yeah that was a good read. I know he can play LB, but I'm pretty sure he's played more LW this season. Maybe a possible Arshavin replacement?
