Joey Barton thug styles Eastmond. Classic Joey Barton move

And then he does the same thing to Cesc. I love Joey Barton.

he's truly a sonuvabitch. too bad he's only been capped once for the ENT. Better none so that the USMNT could scoop him up to play alongside JJ.

also, west ham and stoke headed toward extra time. luckily for us the extra play will gas them and we'll have another comfortable victory against 'ham this saturday

Saw the highlights from yesterday's match. Walcott has become so composed in front of goal. Far improved in that respect the past few years. That's a great sign. Great goal by Beowulf as well. This is the year we win the Carling Cup imo. If we sign a top notch CB in January we will win more than that.

Hope Szcezny continues to get games. His confidence on the pitch is obvious and something we haven't seen from Almunia or Fabianski ever (even in their good stretches). I can see why we wanted to sign old man Schwarzer because he's a year or two away (maybe less) from being our No. 1.

Wilshere signs a new long-term contract with Arsenal!

Szcezny however may well leave us in a free transfer this summer if we do not give him more first team opportunities. That would suck. Hopefully AW can talk some sense into him.

Ramsey may start back training this week, but won't get a run out for at least a month after he begins training. My bet is that we see him in January, barring any setbacks.

Shakhtar this week. The return of Young Jack to the XI. Hopefully Cesc will get a breather. Also I'd imagine Bendtner and Walcott will feature.

great video analysis of our midfield v. West Ham
more analysis from the same blog

that makes it an easy choice for the jersey I want to buy, seeing as he'll probably be the heart & soul of our offense next seaosn

Yeah, our depth is finally re-emerging with fresh legs. If only Gibbs hadn't gone down again. Also, it won't be freezing in Ukraine this time of year, so the weather shouldn't be a factor this week, but their home fans probably will create a great atmosphere.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the news.

If you go to Arsenal.com, you can get free printing for an Alex Song #17 shirt for today only.

Hopefully Beowulf or Wilshere score a match winner in the 88th this year so I can get in on one of those deals.

Fab left out of Ukraine trip. Probably for the best. Song, Denilson and Arshavin unlikely. Guess that means Eastmond is probably getting a start tomorrow. My guess for the XI:

Szczesny
Sagna-Djourou-Kos-Clichy
Rosicky-Eastmond-Wilshere
Walcott-Bendtner-Vela

I would hope Eboue starts in place of Sagna, otherwise that lineup looks right by my estimate. Possibility that Fabianski plays too, but it would be nice to have Szczesny start to quell his lack of playing time complaints.

That video blog was awesome. ZonalMarking ought to work on something like that.

I had actually considered putting Eboue in at LB to give Clichy a breather (that's where he played when Gibbs went down), but I agree there's a strong chance he plays somewhere.

We're on the same page with Fabianski/Szczesny...I think Wenger starts playing him more to get him to re-sign.

Fock, c'mon Diaby, don't make me retract my statement about our resurgent depth.

I think that solidifies the midfield three I listed. Surely Wenger won't go pure youth with Lansbury instead of Rosicky. I'd love to see JET get some PT. Kid seems like he could be a player.

Benik Afobe is on a month-long loan to League One Huddersfield Town due to an injury crisis they have at striker. Could be decent experience for him.

Just when I start to feel bad about ripping on Clichy earlier in the year, he pulls something like he did today.

Oh well. Results like this reinforce the idea that we need to buy a CB and maybe a DM in January so I don't mind it too much. Take care of business at Braga and we'll be fine.

Yeah, it's not that big of a deal. Clichy and Eastmond basically lost the game for us, but at least Eastmond had potential to improve... I don't have much faith that Clichy can do the same at this point.

wtf, RvP called up to Holland squad??

What is Vermaelen's timetable? If he's going to be back in the spring then I see that as unnecessary. Also, we have Song, Diaby, Eboue, and Denilson who can all play DM. Why would we need another?

I'd say our CB depth chart looks like this:

1. Verminator
2. Squillaci
3. Kocielny
4. Djourou

Song is our only true quality DM and he's playing box to box. Diaby and Eboue certainly aren't DMs and Denilson isn't a DM. One injury puts us in a bad position there.

As for CB, who knows when Vermaelen will be back. He's solid but Squillaci is a weakness. He's a decent back up but shouldn't be starting. Kos could be good but he's still raw. Djourou might be a lost cause. Fact is we need another good CB. We won't win any trophy, except maybe the Carling Cup, with the guys we have there now.

Clichy is great at bombarding forward and he's certainly our most in-shape player, but he struggles defensively and having AA playing in front of you most of the time doesn't help.

I did a little digging to figure out what the Gunners look like when healthy. Over the last two Premier League seasons, we have had Fabregas and a target striker (RVP, NB, MC) in the starting lineup for 21 games. In those games, we have had 17W, 3T, and 1L. The average score of those games was 2.76-0.86 and the only loss was to Man City over a year ago. We have not had a healthy squad for any of the five games (all losses) to Man U or Chelsea. All of this is despite inconsistent play from the backs and keepers and any other injuries that have occurred. It seems to me like the team we have now is set to win some trophies as long as we can keep Cesc in the lineup.
