Over the last two Premier League seasons, we have had Fabregas and a target striker (RVP, NB, MC) in the starting lineup for 21 games. In those games, we have had 17W, 3T, and 1L. The average score of those games was 2.76-0.86 and the only loss was to Man City over a year ago. We have not had a healthy squad for any of the five games (all losses) to Man U or Chelsea.
Really interesting stats. Hopefully with the further development of Wilshere and Ramsey it won't be necessary for Cesc to stay, since he its almost assured that he will be leaving at some point.

I could use this time for match exposition, but frick it, I'll let some blogger make a good point and I'll repost it later. In the meantime, let's check out our player's taste in music:
Alex Song - well, he is Cameroonian, after all
Jack Wilshere - repost, we already knew he was a soulful MFer
Thomas Rosicky - Bilic must've turned him into a metal head
Laurent Koscielny - Regulators... nice
Niklas Bendtner - continues to defy expectation by having a 60 year socialite housewife's taste in music

Well there goes that streak.
Having not seen the game, I'm curious...how did Newcastle stifle our attack?

Walcott and Fabregas were really bad. Krul made a few nice saves. They played well on the back line and in midfield. The last 20 minutes we were just hitting long balls. None of which worked. Poor effort.

Rambo is set to play in the Arsenal Reserves match tonight against Everton!

That really is great news.

According to Young Guns, The Daily Mail (or some other news-pape) reported wrong. Young Guns believes he will be in the reserves lineup against Wolves, which I believe is the next game.

That is slightly less better news. But still good news. I hope Rambo breaks Shawcross's face. And Demetrius "You callin me a" Byrd then slaps Shawcross with an AIDS dick.

anyone know anything about this Ibrahim Afellay guy?. Seen some comments section gunners 'cross the web are bubbling up lots of positivity about this move, but I've never seen him play.
look at this geordie frick
Are y'all worried about this Arsene scandal story drifting around? It's been surprisingly quiet (which I'm thankful for), but it worries me that, should it be true, it will create some psychological rift in his ability to act as a professional and stay focused. That and I thought he was more of a principled guy. It would greatly disappoint both my measure of his character and, of course, my expectations for the season.

Only seen Affelay whenever he comes on as a substitute for Holland. Seems to be a talented player. Very versatile attacking figure so he'd fit well in the 4-3-3. I wouldn't mind it, but I'd much rather get a top notch CB. As an aside, not that I think Kos did horrible against Newcastle, or is terrible in general, but why the hell did we buy him? 12 mil for a 25 year old avg CB in Ligue 1 who doesn't have a great physical skillset? Doesn't really make sense to me. Not your typical Arsene signing. I was a little curious of the move at the time and now am even more so. We need a top CB bad.
As for Arsene, so far we've played one game after the news came out, and it was our worst game in a long time (that I've seen) from a passing standpoint. Hope that doesn't keep up. If we don't get our shite together we might be on the outside looking in at Europe. Can't keep blowing home games.

Speaking of Kos, FourfourTwo: "Arsenal lose appeal against Laurent Koscielny's red card against Newcastle. Defender will serve two-match ban"
some sad perspective from thegoonblog: "Koscielny s/o for pulling back last man: 2 match ban. Shawcross s/o breaking AR's leg: 3 game ban. Huddlestone stamps on a player: nothing"
Yeah, we desperately need a CB now. With Djourou in tandem it makes me extremely nervous considering that our next two fixtures are away. Our away record since last spring has been abysmal.
also, Arsenal-Wolves will be available tomorrow on espn3's stream

I prefer pulling Song back from DM to play CB. I'm not expecting that to happen though.

Figured appeal wouldn't work. They never do. What's the point of even looking at video evidence after the match if it's going to be weighted 99 to 1 in favor of what the ref saw on the field? Kos' sending off was harsh...the only goal scoring opp that guy might have had was staying out wide. He cuts inside at all and Squillaci would have been there. Ref probably considered our GK and realized with him staying wide that he could have easily beaten him at the near post.
Huddlestone is so lucky.
Our DM and CB situation weakens us wherever Song isn't played.

Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen has suffered a setback in his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury and will return to see a specialist.

Hope this doesn't end up being a lost season for Tommy V.

There's some room for optimism in thise quote from Wenger
While his injury is still unknown, at least his Achilles has healed up. I wasn't even aware he was on the brink of training again.
quote:
"On the scan his Achilles is completely clear but as soon as he stays out for a while it tightens up and he has pain. We don't know the source of his pain."

Saw that last night and meant to post it. Incredible. We've got some great young talent at striker. I think Vela might be on the way out in January or in the summer, especially if we sign any of those wingers or attacking mids we've been linked to. No info there, just a hunch.
Posted on 11/11/10 at 11:49 am to Friend of OBUDan
I have always viewed having Vela on the bench as a waste of his talent. The problem is that he's more of a traditional 4-4-2 striker instead of a target or wing. Wenger should at least look at loaning him out.
Posted on 11/11/10 at 11:53 am to NOTORlOUSD
Vela can't use his weak foot at all. Unless he learns to, he probably won't make it at Arsenal.
