Don't be mad at Per if he's a little slow. He has really good instincts to make up for it though. He and Vermalen should make a good pairing.

He actually has a high top speed according to the WC stats. LINK

It's his acceleration I'm worried about. Also we need to stop playing a high line if we aren't going to press the ball carrier consistently.

That's interesting. He's so damn lanky that he just looks slow I guess. He's certainly not as quick as smaller forwards though, he's a consistent player and Arsenal can use some of those.

Mertesacker has 75 caps for one of the best international teams in the world. He costs 8 million pounds. Gary Cahill has 3 caps for a 2nd tier European team. He costs 17 million pounds. Great bit of business by Arsenal here.

Does Vargas exclusively play LB? I would imagine we're bringing him in as a winger primarily. Wenger rates Gibbs too highly to have given up on him in the past month.

He can play anywhere on the left. This actually gives us a lot of options on the left, as Gibbs can play further forward quite well. I really would like Vargas though. I've liked him ever since he had that great season in 2009.

For you guys' sake, and although I'm not an Arsenal fan...I hope Per Mertesacker is the man's man we all think he is and beats the shite out of Djourou. I like torching Djourou and all...but he deserves to get the shite kicked out of him for being awful.

Is Chu exclusively a striker? Because, if we can play him as our left wing/forward I would be relieved, since he's Korean I know he would hustle back on defense. So long as he does t waste e ery chance It would pretty much be an upgrade in every way over Arshavin

He can play anywhere in our front 3 from what I understand. Very technically proficient and good work rate.

There was actually a time when Djourou was playing really well. After the Man U FA Cup game where he got injured, he's been playing terribly.

Vargas is Fiorentina's captain! I'm really going to have to write that "leader" article I was talking about before some shitty journo steals my idea.

He can also play behind the striker. It's possible that if we get our movement right, our front four could be extremely dangerous.

Yeah I meant to say he could play second striker too. Thanks for catching that.

Do you think Wilshere will play more advanced this season or same as ManU last year with Ramsey playing the more advanced role?

We desperately miss his ability to hold the ball and dictate play from deep. Aaron can possibly grow into that DLP role, but right now he's being asked to do too much to fill Cesc's shoes in the AM role. It's a conundrum, but I'd rather Ramsey and Wilshere play B2B roles, which would help our defensive balance.

I'm sure you all already saw this in the dempsey thread, but rumor's of arsenal acquiring him.. I thought their main weakness was the defense and they don't have a lot of money to throw around? = waste of money?

I'd love having an american to root for, even if I do think he's overrated.

We have a lot of weak areas at the moment. Dempsey would be a useful squad player to have, especially since we lack creativity now that Cesc is gone. We can't rely on Arshavin and Rosicky any more, so getting a player who can score goals cheaply would be a good move. I don't know if Dempsey is that sort of player. He is excellent in the air, and hopefully Arsene could teach him a thing or two about getting on the end of attacking moves to help improve his play.
