All up in the color announcer's head too.

Called him out for diving every single time he hit the turf. I admit the second foul from Balotelli seemed like a simulation by Sagna.. but not # 1 or 3. And with Song's no call to boot, he deserved it regardless.

I feel like you are in my head, dude. I kept wondering during the broadcast if the announcer was an ex City or Spurs player because he seemed entirely against Arsenal. He called out like 5 "dives" while ignoring all of the City dives.

I believe it was Gary Neville.

It was someone who apparently played for Arsenal in the past and was trying to not appear biased, so overcompensating.

Or it was Stewart Robson. I had the stream with Neville on it.

Robson was the Fox Soccer broadcaster and he was definitely overcompensating for Arsenal bias. He still does stuff for Arsenal TV Online, but some of the things he said Sunday were fireable offenses for an in-house broadcaster IMO. He was talking mad shite on Arsenal, and not just things they did in that game. There were some things he mentioned more generally.

While I'm not much on BR for American football or real football, I had to agree.

Gervinho just doesn't seem to be the same player he was the first half of the season.

The club's fortunes go up while G's form goes down.

We were also winning with him. We lost three straight games when he first went to the ACN. It's also not the first time we've had players struggle when they return from the ACN, so I'm not really worried. And another note, Gervinho's transfer wasn't really saga filled. It was rather straightforward.

In other news, anyone who thinks Santos is a regular option at LB is deluded. He's terrible at LB, and I'm pretty sure his only job is to attack. Gibbs, for the lack of his positional awareness, at least stays mostly on the left side.

Ramsey isn't in form right now, but there were promising signs. You can tell his confidence is shot, but we will need him to step up at some point in the future.

This was a rather lethargic display. I'm glad we got the win though.

At this point I really don't know who is the worse player, Santos or Squillaci.

Ox needs more playing time, Ramsey less. Instead of direct switches of Ox for Walcott try playing Ox out wide left. Benayoun/Ramsey whomever is out there lately hasn't really done anything, despite Benayoun's goal today.

he's not in form... understatement.

My biggest question is: why doesn't Wenger play Ox and Theo together. Why does he keep taking Theo out? Especially on a day like today when the victory was sealed early on.

Agreed. It was like watching LSU beat a team like Ole Miss 24-0. Three points and three more to the plus side of GD. I'll take it.

I'm pretty sure we've been playing with a CM wide left for two reasons. One reason is to dominate possession to such an extent that teams we can have 2 v 1 and 2 v 2 opportunities with Walcott and Sagna, and the second reason is to give our left side some protection. Though we are much more direct with two wingers, until our LB situation is sorted, I'm much more comfortable with this situation. We played with two direct wingers around the Christmas break quite a bit because we had CB's playing at RB and LB, thus the attacking impetus became out better the opposition LB and RB rather than create 2 v 1 opportunities.

Mostly for the sake of balance.

I understand the thought behind your second idea, but it is very flawed.

Gervinho, and Ox get back on defense much quicker than Ramsey/Benayoun. Also, Ramsey/Benayoun drift central nearly every time and leave no first line of protection for Gibbs/Santos on the left.

It is what it is, definitely not helping the defense other than trying to maintain possession.

This is mostly the goal, it appears, and the offensive tactic outweighs the defensive tactic. As long as Walcott and Sagna combine the way they do, our offensive shape will be very lopsided. I think Wenger wants this, as it takes advantage of Walcott's pace, and Sagna's build-up ability, because the left hand side is the weakest side for most PL teams, and is also the side where we build up attacks the best. The shape works better when Gibbs is playing because he stays wide, and often ahead of the auxiliary no.10 (in the form of the CM turned winger). This puts some pressure on the RB to stay positionally disciplined. Today, Santos offered no threat as a wide player, and allowed Zubar to roam rather freely whenever he was brave enough because Santos roamed inside, so he was more of a left-shaded central midfielder than a LB.

I think we are playing this way in comparison to last year because Wenger doesn't trust the supply from midfield. In truth, the Walcott-Van Persie partnership has been very fruitful, so I can see why he wants to emphasize that. I also think Wenger is a bit gun-shy with Ox, not wanting to put too much pressure on the young player in a way similar to Walcott, which really hindered Walcott's development. At the same time, Ox just had a growth spurt at 16 (before then he was on the cutting block at Southampton) and he's still growing into his body at the moment, and an injury could really hinder his development. So Wenger is being super cautious with Ox, and perhaps for good reason. Non top 4 PL defenders, especially ones at the relegation end of the table, have been responsible for more injuries to our players than any other group, and perhaps Wenger's caution is caused by this.
