Well it’s Jorginho.

At least he’s experienced. But we still need to sign a prime cm in the summer and I’m guessing that’s going to be rice.

Oh sure. The guy’s made it clear he doesn’t want to be there and wants the Arsenal transfer. So what’s your choice? You have a disgruntled player on your hands; rightfully so, since you’ve treated him like shite, or 75M in the bank. BHA is playing well right now but they are the equivalent of Wake Forest or Syracuse in the transfer era—they’re going to get poached. But yeah, they now have a disgruntled midfielder who openly stated he wanted out and will no doubt make his discontent known.

Well, it’s cheap and it’s a warm body with some experience. Face it, I want to win the PL but with Jesus out, I won’t scream in frustration if we don’t. Let’s just get back to playing CL football and that will be a great accomplishment from this season.

So with BHA being obstinate, I have no problem accepting defeat, picking up an experienced retread who is at least a credible backup, and then going all out to shore up the midfield in the summer window.

10 million plus 2 in add ons. 1.5 yr contract with additional year option. That’s a pretty good deal all things considered. And looks like we may loan out Lokanga to Palace. That has to mean Elneny will be back at some point as we wouldn’t let our 4th midfielder go out of loan with only 3 options there.

Welp. If we send out Sambi on loan as well, they have to be making another move at CM. Unless they plan on playing ESR there, assuming he is available.

Sun speculating he could be out for the season. Mohamed has been a surprising long-termer and at least shows up with his lunch pail to partially make up for lack of dazzling skills. He’s been here now through plenty good times and bad.

It’s troublesome that Partey can’t seem to stay healthy for long stretches.

I’m assuming we don’t take up another year for elneny so we were going to need to sign two midfielders in the summer. I guess Jorginho can be a bit of a stop gap.

I like it tbh. He is the exact thing we need for Partey which is cover. He isn't starting so I have no issue with it.

Europa League and Premier League are our only competitions. He is a season veteran and plugs a hole we desperately needed to fill. He's a EURO winner and Champions League winner as well. All for it.

Great move on deadline day in my opinion for so low.

I don’t know how dependable some of these rumor-mongering fans sites are, but this one is reporting Arsenal made a third Caicedo bid that was accepted.

Personally I’m a fan of the move. We get in another midfielder, it’s not an obscene amount of money, and he’s only on a 1.5 year deal (with an option for another year). I think everybody in the world would’ve taken him ~3 years ago when he was a bdo finalist, and like Josh mentioned he’s won both a Euro and UCL. the guy has experience but more importantly he has big game experience, would could be invaluable in the next few months

This happens all the time. The player will get over it, if he doesn’t then it only hurts him in the long run. It’s not Brightons fault that he signed a contract with them and he has to honor it. Look I get it, it sucks for Arsenal. But Brighton don’t care they have probably the best scouting/development team in the Premier league and seem to always get net positive with transfers. It is what it is. I think Jorginho fits Arsenals system well.

Sambi on loan to palace.

Which I understand him needing a loan, but I feel like it just puts us back as short on numbers.

Or I guess Xhaka is just going to play every minute.

assuming Jorginho plays TP’s position, I’d figure we either put Vieira or ESR (whichever doesn’t play Ø’s role) into Xhaka’s spot when it comes to Europa/any rotational games.

Have to put ESR at the no. 8 and hope to god he's ready to do the defensive work. Otherwise we are going to be very thin. We might see Matt Smith get some time lol.

Rumor is Elneny tore his ACL. I agree with others here that looks like ESR may be the Xhaka back up.
With the new signings, we at least have a competent second team, at least when Jesus and Reiss are back.
We have 5 PL games this month and the Europa league doesn’t start for us until March. Hopefully Jesus is back in early March.

You know, I completely forget zinchenko is basically a midfielder. If Xhaka is hurt or out, you can move him up and play kt or Tomi at left back.

We are fine.

It would be nice if we just had one more player. Elneny being out for so long makes for really thin margins. He's a good midfielder who is versatile, tidy, and safe. I really wish we had just one youth player who might be ready to bed into the first team, but all the viable candidates are out on loan. Matt Smith seems to be a championship level player, but he does have nearly 100 appearances at lower levels. I guess we are forgetting about the Polish kid who can play DM. But dear God it feels like we are thin. I'm also probably scarred by the several seasons where bad things happened in the Winter/Spring.

We have to pray for good injury luck. We need to maintain our performance as well as have other teams take points off City.

As for Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal are considering activating the one-year option on his contract rather than releasing him partway through his rehabilitation.
Glad to see they won't just abandon Mo during rehab.
