arteta's been doing a damn fine Xabi impersonation these past couple of years and I'm very comfortable with Rambo/Jack in the other slot. better he play there than have to track back for fullbacks.

will be interesting for sure though.

also, yesterday's match showed why Arsene passed on Capoue. he can't make anything but simple passes. had some really atrocious pass attempts.

But that dude is built like a NFL player. Tottenham look really impressive on paper but they look clueless in actual chance creation.

That's half of the Spurs squad honestly.

Are you between light and medium brown and built like an NFL tight end? Come play for the Spuds!

I noticed Wanyama having similar issues. Many we're surprised one of the bigger clubs didn't pick him up.

What is going on?

Today is like some weird parallel dimension.

Tottenham needs a better CAM. I've only seen a little of their games but they seem to have trouble going from simple possession to attacking, like there's a disconnect

for sure. both linked to arsenal at a position of need. there's a reason why we passed on both.

I'm so excited to see us play.

There's a lot of Mata to PSG talk. Wenger has probably rated Pastore for awhile and is trying to see if we can swoop in and get him for cheap if he becomes surplus to requirements. Gotta stockpile those assets, how else are we gonna swing a sign and trade for Lebron next summer?

I think the bigger problem is they now have a huge squad and AVB will have difficulties picking their best XI.

AM: Sigurdsson, Holtby, Eriksen, Lamela

lamela might be the answer, but yes. as I said when people were raving about their summer, they added a lot of good depth, but outside lamela, didn't add top, top quality. paulinho too, but he plays further back. soldado is a good striker, but needs link up play. they'll probably sort it out soon.

Sigurdsson and Holtby are pretty good players, not great. Eriksen has potential but he's going to take time to get acclimated. I thought Lamela plays out wide for the most part?

What would the lineup in a 4-4-1-1 look like? Defensively that would clearly be a better option than the 4-3-3.

Something like

Sagna-Kos-Mert-Gibbs/Monreal

Walcott-Ramsey/Wilshere-Arteta-Cazorla
Ozil
Giroud

We are defending way deeper than usual and have in general avoided the false press, preferring to close down teams from the front and rely on their mistakes or nick the ball when they try to build up through the middle. Also the 4-4-1-1 is amazing on the counter, though Giroud isn't ideal to lead the line in that sort of system.

There has to be a reason bigger teams passed on Eriksen. Whatever the case may be, Tottenham should have spent the Bale money on one player who actually can link D to O. Lamela is a great option wide, though.

Ultimately AVB has had the time and money to build his team, yet his high pressure system still looks unconvincing. The team doesn't win the ball back particularly well, they don't transition from D to O very well, nor do they seem to possess the ability to break down good teams when they have possession. This team could easily play like a Mourinho coached Chelsea team with all the size and speed, but if AVB insists on playing a nuanced possession game then I think they are still missing a player or two.

Lamela played wide because of Totti. Many thought he was Roma's future #10.

His hype on the internet insisted he'd become world class when in reality he may be capped as a solid player for top-6 team. There's nothing wrong with that but that's just the feeling I get. However, he may exceed that, it's still too early to tell.

Whats the word on this Goalkeeper Arsenal got on loan? Reading up on him it seemed like he got loaned out to another club in Seri A last season and eventually lost his starting job. Is he going to be an upgrade for us?
