I'm really really excited to see how Wenger uses Özil tactically.
Y'all are all saying give him a free role at the top of a triangle with no defensive duties, but I just don't see that being successful against the top 6-7 teams in the league. There's just too much quality, especially between United, City and Chelsea.
In a 3-man midfield, especially one with no pure DM or ball winner, you need 3 very active, hard working players.
At Madrid he had Khedira and Alonso - two world class holding mids. At Arsenal he will have Arteta and Ramsey.

Oh, I will. I can't believe this is actually happening.

Uhhh have you forgotten about MATHIEU BLACK BOOTS FLAMINI??? Not to mention Aaron God Ramsey has clearly become the best all around midfielder in the EPL, probably in the world, and quite possibly of all time.

I like Khedira but I'm not sure about world class, very strong though and underrated going forward. Arsenal is going to be fine in the midfield. Ramsey and Arteta can cover well enough and if teams get stretched, Arsenal will go nuts on the counter.

I like this post so much.

Theo is floating right now just thinking about the possibilities.

Khedira would walk into 99% of midfields in the world.
I know Wenger will get it right. frick an international break I want to see Özil play now

I don't see his role being any different from Cesc's his last year here, where we were pretty good against the top half of the table. The 4-4-1-1 we've played the last two seasons is a pretty solid defensive formation, and in open play we've been great defensively for a long time. Our problems are usually due to individual defensive mistakes and set piece defending.

I'd call it a stretch to say Alonso is a world class holding mid. He's basically the same player as Arteta except he has better passing range. They are both extremely slow, good technically, and are great positionally. The biggest difference between the two is relative reputation.

What would the lineup in a 4-4-1-1 look like? Defensively that would clearly be a better option than the 4-3-3.
