If we hadn't sold Van Persie we'd be title contenders

This is where the question comes in... which is more valuable? A chance at the title or 20 million pounds?

It's not my money so I'd much rather a chance at the title. It's not like losing the 20 million pounds would've made the club insolvent

I am as unsold on Giroud as I am with Borini. I was high on both of them coming into the season too. It's way too early to tell, but I thought Giroud was very very poor today.

Giroud:
6/20 passing - 30%
0 chances created
25 losses of possession (most in the match) on 35 touches
2 shots, 0 on target
1/7 ground duels won 14%
1 error that lead to a shot (the only one in the match)

He also did really poorly on that 1v1 with Enrique

The biggest thing for me is not having someone in your squad who has publicly come out and said he doesn't want to play for the club anymore.

Also, what is more valuable:

£25m from a top club in the same league
£15m from a club in another league

I think the rest of the team needs to learn to give him the ball to his feet rather than to his head.

This is true too. He has missed a couple chances and is pressing but if you really think about it he has hardly been involved in the game. He needs to get some balls into feet early on so he can find a rhythm. I think this will help him tremendously. Too often all we do is hit balls down field to him or cross it towards him and miss. He is a footballer too. He looks adept at playing one twos around the box. He had a decent number assists last year in France. He just needs to see more of the ball I think.

No doubt about it but we have to move on.

He was also 2/6 passing in his own half.

Giroud once he beds in will be alright. To me he passes the eye test.

Those stats are interesting, but they don't account for the only part of Giroud's game that is working, which is his movement. On the first Podolski goal, he showed a lot of presence of mind to change the direction of his run, which risked squandering the chance for Podolski. He does need to be more crisp in possession, but he's truly aiming to be a complete forward. It might take half a season before we see him at his best.

I noticed it. He made an impact on the match through movement, but was still far too wasteful on the ball. I think it was Giroud (might have been Podolski) who made a run across goal on a counter that forced Agger to take him inside and make Skrtel choose between the man in possession and the player out wide. It led to a nice shot on goal. I'll rewatch the match tonight and focus a bit more on Giroud's movement and then report back.

He's willing to move laterally in a way we haven't had since we played with two strikers. He's also willing to run beyond the CB. I thought his run on that Diaby chance was superb. He needs to finish better, as that's the second pass in 3 games he's received like that where he's sent the ball wide.

We are doing a terrible job of finding him with crosses to the head though.

We need to get him more involved in the build up. Play a few to his feet and let him get involved in the game.

I'm fine with crossing it to him, but Gibbs isn't a great crosser of the ball. Jenkinson is better but he finds it hard to get upfield. Giroud seems to excel at bending his runs around the 18 and finding little pockets of space behind the CB's. He just needs to finish. Once he gets accustomed to the physicality of the league we should see him more involved.

We all too often look to feed the ball out wide to Gibbs when we are pushing forward on attack while we only have Giroud in the area to receive the service, which is hardly ever a good enough cross from Gibbs. I would love to see Gibbs play a diagonal or backwards pass to Cazorla or Podolski for them to either shoot or pick a through ball to Giroud. We just need to improve in a big way when we try to play down the wings.

For sure. This is where Sagna is missed.

I read an article today that I was going to link here which talked about how Jenkinson has improved over last season. Then it said that he might keep his job when Sagna comes back, and I x'd out of the window and never looked back.
