Wenger let it all out today on the pitch.

I am as unsold on Giroud as I am with Borini. I was high on both of them coming into the season too. It's way too early to tell, but I thought Giroud was very very poor today.

I agree totally. Some times he looks like he is just an oaf. He will get better, but hes no RVP. Looked slow today. But other than that i really like this team. Diaby played good and i like the D. Good boost of confidence going forward now.

A big issue is he's much better with his feet than in the air. But for some reason we think having a tall striker means we can just punt the ball forward. He wasn't great, but we weren't exactly putting him in the best situations. Still early for him. I think he'll adapt just fine.

I liked what we did today. Much more of a 4411 functionally. Cazorla stayed far up the pitch for the most part, which i liked. Poldi was ruthless taking his chance which was refreshing. Per had some great challenges. Diaby was great. That was a sight for sore eyes. Jenkinson wasn't half bad defensively, though still an abomination offensively. That outside of the boot, cross field pass was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

My immediate reaction to that pass. LINK

While I agree jenks was bad offensively he was very solid defensively and had one great run/shot later in the game

I just watched the game again, and I'm ready to eat my words about Diaby. At the same time, 'Pool gave him a lot of space, so I am not sure what to think. If he continues playing like this, and I hope he does, we'll be contending for silverware.

Diaby was on another level. He is so calm with the ball at his feet. It's unreal.

If DIaby stays healthy and plays like that consistently then the whole outlook of this season will change drastically. Those are two pretty big ifs though

Just rewatched the match. Warning: LONG POST!

A few side notes:

Liverpool started off really well. They did a good job in tight spaces, and worked the ball to the forwards. I thought they were the better side in the first-half, but a goal was never going to come. They also played exceptionally well (maybe the best I've seen) out of the back.

Arsenal maintained their shape throughout the whole match, and really took advantage of LFC's spacing. They were the better side and deserved 3 points. A goal from Liverpool simply wasn't going to come.

Liverpool's pressing was very good. Arsenal's back line had multiple panicked passes and forced long balls that won possession back for Liverpool. Mannone really struggled when the ball was played back to him. A better side probably would have done better with those chances.

Gerrard was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Our offense is really supposed to flow through him so I give him a lot of the blame. Really wasteful.

Suarez was also bad. He wasn't himself on the ball.

Borini is not a wide player. It's frustrating to watch, but I'd rather Downing on the right if Rodgers isn't going to play Borini in the center. He simply can't create space for himself.

Sterling did well on his shot off the post. Good presence of mind to take the ball outside and then get a shot off. Borini made a good effort to keep that ball in play and LFC came close to converting on it.

Joe Allen and Arteta are brilliant. Simple as that.

Sahin definitely wasn't bad, actually one of our better passers on the match, but he looked confused. I'm not sure he had a clear role, or if he did, knew what it was. His defensive efforts were bad, and he made no attempt to hustle back in defense on Arsenal's counters.

Even more unimpressed with Giroud and I watched him every time Arsenal had possession. Only a few times did his movement really impress me, and his immobility really stood out to me. Skrtel beat him in a dead sprint a couple of times. There were a handful of plays where he literally stood still in the box on a cross, no back post or near post run. I certainly won't write him off this early, but he has me worried (especially since he is on my fantasy team). He pulled Agger across goal a few times, either giving another player a look at goal or opening up a diagonal run behind the defence. He did well on a counter to draw Agger wide before cutting back in, allowing Diaby to play him through but he couldn't get his foot around the ball. He also looks really strange when he runs

Podolski impressed me on his goal. Led the counter and then beat Glen Johnson in a sprint from midfield to claim his prize. Rodgers' system creates so much space on the pitch and Arsenal took advantage of that very well. He also did well defensively.

Diaby was MOTM for me. Very composed on the ball and even putting in a good defensive shift when needed.

Cazorla is the real deal. How many times have I said that now? Really would have loved to have seen him paired with RVP.

Per played well too. He had a couple poor passes, but was solid defensively. That yellow card was very harsh, and there were several fouls in the match that were worse than that one (2 by Vermaelen).

I loved seeing the couple of battles between Ox and Sterling..the future of England. In 5-10 years I will remember watching those challenges as they play in World Cups.

I noticed this halfway through and brought it up. Their shape was magnificent at times.

Jesus, he was abysmal. I've never seen him play that poorly. It seemed like he was trying to play everything so quickly.

He's really starting to piss me off. He needs to start winning these one on one's. He's wasting every chance they set him up with.

The problem is we saw him in the center already. He's non-existent there too. We're going to be in serious trouble if BR can't figure this one out. We NEED a center attacker.

I was having so much fun watching these two (even in a 2 goal defeat). I almost wanted to just take the rest of them off the field and watch these guys go one on one at each other (that's what he said).

Podolski impressed me on his goal.

Gorgeous finish, and an even better pass to set it up. That was vintage Thierry Henry Arsenal. Back in the day those counter attacks were lethal.

Shades of Yaya. He bossed the midfield the entire game.

Overall, I saw slight improvement from us. They're slowly grasping the system more and more. We just desperately need to find a goal scorer somewhere.

Congrats Gunners
Defeat always stings just slightly less if you guys are on the other side of it.

I think Pool pressured us up high leaving gaps for the one thing we all know Diaby can do and that's dribble. When teams sit back he won't nearly be as effective offensively as he isn't the best at picking out a pass. Yesterday he would beat one man with the dribble then he would have acres of space to run into. I do think he physically bossed Liverpool's midfield most of the game and had a few good tackles. But the jury is still out on Diaby. Will he stay healthy, can he perform well consistently, and will he be effective in a game where there isn't space everywhere and things are tight?

We are also more likely to run into teams that will pack the center of the park. I would like to see Diaby break down a parked bus team with his dribbling. I just really want to be wrong about him.

I hear ya. Maybe this is the season he repays all of Wenger's patience and trust and realizes his potential.

He made a ton of possession saving pass/skill moves as well though. Did you all notice his flick on right before he got tackled horribly? That was impressive just didn't get much notice due to him getting crumpled.

He is very good with the ball at his feet but he is loose with the ball at times and doesn't have that killer ball in his locker. He has always been highly skilled but its the rest of the his game that needed work. He has improved defensively.

It was always known how much Wenger loves Diaby. To a fault maybe. How many other managers would have given up on him by now with all the injuries he went through. The French people and Laurent Blanc also rate him. Their was a French poll before the Euros and Diaby had the highest % of votes on who should be first choice in France's midfield and on numerous occasions Blanc has said that Diaby is an important part of the French national team. There is definitely some quality in him. Maybe if stays healthy we could see him really shine.

Looking back Diaby was in beast mode. He looked funny but really had control of the ball turning and splitting the pool players. Lets just hope he can stay healthy and the midfeild will be fine with him and arteta.

2-3 seasons ago diaby was the guy, i thought song sucked. Wenger even had him play up and he scored 2 goals. I just forget what game that was.
