just heard during the BUL/RUS match that Twellman will do the USA match tonight

Yeah, he is almost always on the mic with Ian Darke for ESPN's USMNT matches.

Ballack mumbles. Do yall just like him because he's not American and was a good player? He's a bad analyst.

Do you remember when England and the US tied in the 2010 World Cup and Alexi's first words were "They [England] just aren't very good." I can't remember who was on the set with him, but I remember saying to myself, "Oh shite!"

It was funny to me because they say the British are the ones who are forward and unapologetic. Not when it comes to Lalas. Dude was ruffling feathers on the set.

It's hard to fault Lalas for being right about that.

I can't lie. I do love when Lalas is on set with the Mexican homers. He always seems like he's trying to get them to fight him, which I support.

There have definitely been times when I've thought Lalas was going out of his way to antagonize the person sitting next to him. That said, I applaud him for telling it like it is when it comes to England, even if it hurt Steve McManaman's feelings.

lalas isn't terrible. if for nothing else he should be respected for saying what he believes. he isn't saying stuff to drum up ratings. he's just an odd dude with a lot of unique opinions on different issues.

that said, I think the main part of what dandy is fair. he's very much American/First Take-y in his interactions with other analysts. and sometimes he just makes no damn sense and uses analogies that don't work very well. I think he's been more substantive lately than he was earlier (he got some critiques on his coverage early this WC).

and as for his career, I get really tired of that shite. particularly with espn forcefricking analysts' CV every time they speak. that's cool, but we've been shown time and time again that playing success or managerial success doesn't equate to being able to accurately analyse matches or the sport, much less communicate that analysis effectively.

personally, I think ballack is shite for espn. he might be better if he could speak German with subtitles but espn insists on these guys stumbling through their second (or third, fourth, etc) language. not judging those guys or trying to rip them, but tv is damn hard in your first language and plenty have problems communicating thoughts then. it's even harder when your searching for words in another language.

Well it's not just Ballack's accent. I have really enjoyed Ruud and Roberto Martinez and they both have pretty thick accents.

Ballack just has negative charisma. He's boring and stiff and just not engaging.

His face his pretty but he is a black hole on the set.

Ballack's accent isn't thick at all, imo. But, I'm used to speaking with people whose second or third language is English.

I´m sure he´s unintelligible for many around this great country, especially Alabama.

IMO, it seems thicker because the German accent is less familiar to most in the USA than a hispanic accent.

Plus, Ballack has a pretty limited vocabulary so his commentary isn't as "colorful".

And Germans aren't really known for being super outgoing and effusive.

I like Ballack but he's just very stiff and boring to me.

I don't know if you try to be condescending but congratulations on your success if you do.
