I can't stand him. His blatant distaste for Jurgen makes it look difficult for him to be remotely positive about the team, which makes sense as to why some of you like him. For example, he goes on a tangent about how Jurgen says it isn't realistic to win a World Cup right now, but in front of the team, he says they won't get out of the group. He goes cry on stage for the Men in Blazers town hall, but he puts the team down at almost every chance he gets.
I don't fault him because he's playing the Skip Bayless role of US Soccer, but I hate him all the same. He's doing what'll continue to keep getting him paid. That's fine. I just get tired of him speaking in tired clichés to sound like he knows his shite and constantly being negative. His tirade on the live Inside finalé about why Jurgen shouldn't be there was downright stupid. I'm beginning to think he wanted the coaching job and didn't get it.

What? You don't think there's a difference between the coach and an analyst paid to say what he thinks?

No, he doesn't. He says what he believes. It seems all people want on TV is for people to say their team will beat everyone 10-0. It's not his job to be a US Soccer endorser (which he does plenty of, btw)...it's his job to sit on TV and give his opinion.

I remember Skip Bayless playing sports in front of millions.

Ha, I was trying to think of an eloquent way to express this exact sentiment. Perfect.

I'm fully aware of him playing in the World Cup. My point was that he thrives on being the guy to piss people off by being "honest". My sole point was that I dislike him because he plays the "I'm an a-hole, but I'm just stating my opinion!" card. That's completely fine, and it's obviously doing well for him. I just don't like him.

Twellman the studio analyst or Twellman the color commentator? The latter drives me insane.
Posted on 6/22/14 at 11:33 am to WarSlamEagle
he's fine in both situations. people get way too into not liking commentators and analysts and all this shite. i honestly cant think of a commentator in sports that bothers me besides the dickie v of the past 5 or so years.

First and foremost I have the utmost respect for Alexi based on what he did for the sport in this country and what he continues to do. Watching specials and reading about what he and guys like Stewart, Reyna, Ramos, etc. went through really made me appreciate those teams in the 90s.
Lalas analyzes much like his playing career: pretty unorthodox and not really giving much of a frick what anyone thinks about it. I like that he goes out and gets it and ruffles some jimmies. Ballack kind of acts a bit smug sometimes too so I think he and Alexi just kind of go back and forth and it's all in good fun.

When Twellman has time to think through what he's about to say, like in studio analysis, then he's fine. When he's on the spot during the match, he has a tendency to say some really dumb stuff.

Alexi is becoming the typical ESPN character.
they have 1 for football, 1 for baseball, 1 for basketball, etc.
