Like I said in a previous thread. Alexi Lalas understands the American soccer landscape better than anyone, besides maybe TD's Sheep...

who may in fact be Alexi Lalas IRL.

I told my German friend about Ballack as an analyst in America, and he laughed saying that, "Ballack can barely speak German."

Yeah, isn't the story on Ballack is that he is pretty dumb?

I feel like I'm cursing his name. He seems like a nice enough fellow but man he is boring.

He does seem to be getting progressively angrier with Alexi though. Maybe he'll curse him out in German before this is over.

Ballack is fantastic on set?

I think he is very funny and entertaining.

He reminds me of the Inspector Clouseau or Mister Magoo characters.

Okay, but this is the World Cup.

Look, I just think Alexi is abrasive and a bit condescending towards other analysts. And, lately, he has been speaking in broad generalizations and not really analyzing anything from a formation or tactical standpoint (from the coverage I've seen). Still, I think generalizing can be helpful, and sometimes he's pretty spot on.

I'm not saying I want him gone, but it seems to me he makes other analysts around him upset or uncomfortable. I guess I just don't want that in my World Cup coverage.

I guess it comes from being Da Man for ESPN soccer for every 3.8 years. He is it. If anything happens in the world of soccer , ESPN goes to him for perspective. All of a sudden , Da Man has to share a stage. I can see how he gets an attitude about it.

Not saying he's justified, I simply understand .

I just think it's funny how he sits during the discussion, all sprawled out. Dude just does not give a crap.

i think you misunderstood my point. i don't care about the accent. i'm just saying there are times that these analysts have trouble forming the right phrases or conveying the point clearly.

I thought Ballack's head was going to explode the other day when he was trying to remember "Ivory Coast"

Alexi is great. Period. And somebody mentioned him ruffling Macca's feathers, Macca is hilarious when he's worked up. He's not afraid to call out Engerland.
