Imagine what that $30 million is going to turn into in 3 years. I bet he comes back saying he needs $100 million by then.
The proposal is already at $70M.

This will be even worse than the ones that failed in Missouri, because they will let people steal too,

Thats the rub. Think of it like California's high speed rail. He'll need 100s of millions more to let people grab free shite!

I was curious on the price tag so i googled
Cost of opening a new Kroger is around 38 million
Cost of opening a smaller grocery chain that’s more for low income areas like a Piggly Wiggly is 1.5-5 million
Three years and $30M.
Aldi can toss up a new construction in ~60 days.
Just sayin'.

So is everyone just going to starve for 3 years?

And pay only $1.5-3M for a much larger building.

After he just mentioned raiding retirement funds for budget shortfall.
Spending $30 million on a grocery store makes perfect sense when you are facing a $5.4 billion budget deficit.
I'd love to see how large this store is for $30 million.
And yes Democrats, these are the people who are currently running your DNC.

As a bonus, the city already owns the land. So it’s paying $30M just for construction.

The store will never open, and the $30 million or more will be gone.

A Soviet man walks into a shop. He asks the clerk, “You don’t have any meat?”
The clerk says, “No, here we don’t have any fish. The shop that doesn’t have any meat is across the street.”

If the government is spending $30M to open this “non-profit” grocery, isn’t that really highlighting the idiocy of this proposal? It would take an average grocery store about $1.8B in revenue to hit $30M in pure profit. And the city is “helping” the city grocery store by not charging for property tax. Couldn’t they have just done that with existing grocery stores and achieved far better outcomes?
Hell no. It has to be more complicated so they can launder their money.

We'll spend $30 million to save you money.
I'm sure the unions will get a big chunk of that.
