What do you mean? Go back 80 years ago and most people were impoverished. I’m willing to bet the paycheck to paycheck percentage was far higher.

Just means they are fricking stupid and that they need a good dose of fear to help them understand the need to gather. It’s like you motherfrickers never read about the ant and the grasshopper as kids..

We are talking about the poor poor federal workers who may not get paid on schedule, but will get paid and have a shite ton of job rights that regular workers don't. That makes up for the known risk of a shut down when they took the job.

Where do you suppose they get the resources to build an emergency fund?
Work. They have 100 or more hours a week to work and earn money. If you can’t survive without one to four paychecks you are in a financial crisis and should spend every waking hour scrapping to save. Or you can fricking whine and go hungry..you don’t think they’ve wasted either time or more directly money they could have saved at some point in the past?

quote:Sure, plumbers. There are plumbers who have outstanding receivables, especially with big jobs. They don't have the protections of federal workers.
So, not plumbers?

And none of them are going to be happy going to work not knowing when they'll be paid for it.

Point? You asked how much they make now..I said what’s that matter. It doesn’t, what matters is what they saved before now..

Yep. That's called income.
I explained why income and emergency funds are related, and you agreed.

Why would I hire someone who is going to return to his job when the shutdown is over?

Some live paycheck to paycheck so missing just one could certainly hurt them.
I promise everyone they owe money to would be willing to help them with extensions and such.

Regardless the idea of having to work for virtually free is a pretty asinine idea.
They will be paid for their work.

And the government has been shut down for far more then a week
So they should have been preparing for this as they have only missed one paycheck

Who is asking you to? This isn’t complicated..save some god damned money while you can..if they’ve been working for more than a few years..and they didn’t save a few weeks or months of money..that’s on them.

No, much of the time they don't, unless my father in law and mechanic are lying to me. They'll wait and work with the customer. The federal workers know they are going to get paid and collect 100% whereas the plumber, mechanic and AC guy hope they get 100%.

pshhh, if are thinking of taking a job with the fed gov then you need to consider the possibility of a shutdown. I worry about the IQ of a federal worker if he can't survive for at least a couple months without income. I thought you had to be somewhat intelligent to get a plush gov job?
I'm self employed and frequently go a couple months or more without payment.

After just one paycheck? You don't have any more money? One lady on ABC said she had to go sell her plasma!
WTF people .. You didn't save anything?
The point Ross raised was valid. His point is furloughed workers could borrow at a very low rate against a US government obligation. There is no reason in hell furloughed workers should be out of money and can't eat.
Were the MSM honest, helpful, and viewer friendly, they'd shout Ross's observation from the tallest rooftops.
Instead, they solely eviscerate him for his "insensitivity".

Most of the people on your side. All we have heard is “there are other way to earn money
While the shutdown continues.”.
Well, who in their right mind would waste time and money on someone who you know could be gone next week?
