sure they can. the issue would be defense. And california could free ride on US defense spending. The US wouldn't let anything happen to a country that its next to.

this isn't going to pass fwiw, nor should it. But the US would get the worst end of California leaving.

But california? they would economically be just fine. They would have other issues, namely a serious immigration issue of all the people moving there if they decide to exit.

They'd have major issues that would eventually wear down their economic output. California is a valuable member of the USA. They're not nearly as valuable as a stand alone country.

They have a damn near impossible chance at getting out of the Union. EVERY STATE has to vote unanimously on California exiting the U.S.. This is all a huge waste of time. Texas has already tried this and failed miserably.

Where are they getting water?

Let them go. Charge them for defense and water.

Californian's get what they want and we are all happy.

This country is too big as it is.

What currency will they use? Surely a country that is leaving the US is too good for the dollar.

Cloward piven theory. Intentionally destroy the fabric of economy and civil order. Then commies take over.

Obama was supposedly going to.

Weak tea.

Cal will end up with 4 or 5 states. Southeastern cal will remain in union. That's your issa cd and many more. 12 cal cds are gop.

Oregon and Washington will join the trade group of the pacific.

The existing contracts for water and power will persist. The West will be self sufficient in ten years.

Everyone will be dual citizens for five years. Choose. Lots of republicans will go back to Kansas.

Trump will personally negotiate trade deals so you stll get fresh fruit and veggies.

They would definitely have issues, but our issues would be bigger IMHO. Just for a federal tax receipts, but also serious national security concerns.

I have no idea but I would expect it to be a cali-dollar that is pegged to the dollar.

They can't even agree on it now. You think leaving the union is gonna make negotiations any easier?

Why?

We are very reliant on technology for our national security and the big players are in california. Not to mention a large number of banks and energy companies.

california pays more in taxes than it gets back in the above.

oh, i doubt these tech vendors are going to turn down $$. But its a national security risk FOR US, these technologies are core to our national security. These technology companies chafe against US privacy practices. I can only imagine they are going to be quite happy to be under a new regime.

Plus you have encryption export, and the deep ties the NSA has to the tech industry.

It is a national security risk for these large tech companies coming out of the thumb of the US Feds.
