The really dumb authoritarian part is that after over two years and many, many things tried in our states and all kinds of countries, lock-downs failed to show any positive results.
Protecting those who are at high risk is the only efficient tactic. It puts the bulk of resources directed at the only real risk. One-size-fits-all is dumb, but it is an authoritarian bureaucrat's favorite tool.
China should just follow DeSantis' policy.

I'm reading a great book on the history of England. Currently through the year 1150. There's been tons of coups. None of them by people rising up. They all go like this:
a. Leader is a dick head.
b. Guy who wants leadership kills him and turns to people.

They don’t care about their people. It’s better for the state to hijack the world, particularly the US, of exports we have made ourselves dependent on. Covid simply gives them a hall pass. It’s brilliant

Interesting. We all know that Biden could be removed from office legitimately at any time based on cognitive functioning. Earlier today was the report that Putin was being targeted for removal while he is sick with cancer, and now this. I have no idea how true the stories are about threats to Xi and Putin, but I do find it interesting in terms of timing. And I’m not one who believes in a lot of coincidences.

Sounds like he has lost the Mandate of Heaven - this is what the Chinese people justify their loyalty to the Chinese government. Another story I hear is that the CCP committed to 0 covid in China, which is why the big lockdown in Shanghai is happening. Another story is that it is political fighting between groups in Beijing and Shanghai and the lockdown crushes the Shanghai group financially. A third story is that it is Chinese vaccine related - some areas got larger doses and this is the cause of the hemorrhagic issues. I lean toward trying to protect their Mandate of Heaven or none of the above.
