The current laws as written don’t cover same-sex marriages well.
Sam-sec marriages are legal and exist in Wisconsin.
The changes update the laws to cover these situations so that legally they operate the same way as heterosexual marriages.
a lot of family law is revolved around establishing the legal father because we know who the mother is legally because she has a baby. The laws have been updated where applicable to include parents who didn’t give birth but legally are the parent of a child.
They have not fully remove father or mother.
for instance once law changes “acknowledged paternity” to “acknowledged parentage” because a lesbian mother who didn’t give birth can make an acknowledgement of the child and be the child’s legal parent.
the same law uses the word “father” when discussing someone who was determined to be the father through genetic testing.
Basically post Obergerfell most state family law codes are outdated and don’t cover these situations.

I wonder if state basic wording don't match with federal, does it give the feds a reason to back out of commitments? Not sure I'm asking that right, but something like if the State puts in some kind of claim using these stupid terms, and don't match up to the feds. Just causing a hold up and/or denial.
