They'll spin it as "Obama inherited a bad economy; he turned it around after this point in his presidency" followed by "The economy is doing well under Trump because it was already recovering when he took office, thanks to Obama" followed by "Trump's approval ratings are still low because Black Jesus is the real reason the economy is booming!"

It's their success metrics. Their goals are to ensure Trump is less popular than Obama, that he creates less jobs, that he has a higher unemployment rating, that his deficit is bigger and his GDP growth rate is smaller. This graphic is from a CNN staff meeting where they are being blasted for not meeting goals.
