We never controlled it. It’s international waters. Iran is pissed that Trump called them on their bs and they are mad the US isn’t rewarding them for their actions like under previous administrations who either turned a blind eye or enabled it. The negative is outside of boots on the ground or civil war we don’t really have a good option to topple the Islamic regime. It’s likely a gamble Trump shouldn’t have taken but maybe it will payoff longterm? If Vance is elected? Maybe. If a Democrat is elected? Absolutely not and depending upon who it is they may even facilitate the rebuilding of Iran

Clearly they are content with bombing our bases, closing the Straight, and bombing Gulf State infrastructure when they conflict too much.
No reason to escalate further until and if there is another US/Israel escalation
