WSB-TV (Atlanta) political analyst fired for on-air comments regarding Trump

Long-time WSB-TV and radio chief political analyst and commentator Bill Crane was fired Monday after mocking former president Donald Trump’s appearance.
Ray Carter, general manager for WSB-TV, wrote in a statement that during Sunday evening’s Channel 2 Action News 6 p.m. telecast, Crane “uttered remarks not aligned with our commitment for fair and unbiased reporting and analysis. As a result, we’re ending our relationship with Mr. Crane, effective immediately. We value the trust we’ve fostered for decades with our viewers, and we continue working hard to earn and maintain that trust.”
Crane, who has worked with WSB since 2006, released a lengthy statement on social media to provide his take on what happened.
He said he was answering a question about Fulton County District Attorney’s office investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn electoral results from the 2020 election in Georgia. “I offered that it is part of Democratic Party strategy to keep President Trump’s fantasy of a stolen election in play, as well as to keep his orange face looming large as a Bogeyman to increase Democratic voter turnout, even though Donald Trump is NOT on the ballot anywhere in 2022,” he wrote.

Agree. As these recent years have demonstrated, this type of “hard-hitting analysis” usually lands you even a bigger job up in NYC or at the very least a regular spot as a guest on MSNBC or CNN.
This was mild by TDS standards. Has to be more going on behind the scenes than a station all the sudden randomly standing for principled journalism.

I’ve been listening to Bill Crane for many years. That commentary is very uncharacteristic of him. You can’t speak like that, even once, and expect to hold your job as a political analyst. His firing is justified.

WSB Radio may have Erick Erickson and once carried Rush Limbaugh and Neal Boortz, but once you get away from the syndicated talk shows you'll find the WSB news casters local to the station are decidedly left of center. Don't let their major programming fool you regarding the station's take on most matters. (They're all giddy as schoolgirls about the idea that Trump and Guiliani could be brought up on charges regarding their questioning of the integrity of the Georgia elections in Fulton County in 2020.)
Georgia, by and large, is a red state. Atlanta, however, is so GD'd big and so GD'd blue that it's difficult to counterbalance that shite. Savannah is pretty damned blue as well.

WSB made a hard left turn either around the time of Trump or the 2020 riots/terrorism.
I used to very much enjoy WSB as an alternative to other news sources (and I'm talking regular WSB, not talk radio). It reported on restaurants, crime, the weather, etc. while AJC gave us every detail of every Atlanta housewife, rapper, etc.
Now WSB is super click bait and will send alerts about some anti-Trump story that has nothing to do with Atlanta and is certainly not to the level of breaking national news. It's junk now.

been listening to Crane for many years. Even though he tries to project objectivity, the left of center always bleeds through the veneer. It used to bother me that he tried to be subtle in filtering the story toward his bias while pretending to give us the straight facts.
