Would you be shocked if Phil Bredesen (D) wins the TN Senate race over Marsha Blackburn?

Polls seem to have this race as a dead heat, and I think this will be the race to watch (not the TX Senate race).
Bredesen is a popular former Governor. Nobody seems to like Blackburn.

Not at all.
The polls lately have actually been favorable to Blackburn. Seems like it’s going to come down to turnout for the R.

From the lack of combativeness from the PoliBoard I'm getting to this thread, I think nobody would be shocked.

Bredesen brings wider appeal because as Nashville mayor and TN Governor, he was more of a moderate. His appeal also comes from the fact that he lured the Oilers to Tennessee. He is well liked by many establishment Republicans, like Bob Corker.
That being said, I'd be surprised if he wins. This state is still red and more light is being shined on the fact that he would be a rubber stamp for Schumer. That wouldn't go over well here. East Tennessee needs to turn out in huge numbers to ensure it offsets Nashville and Memphis.

It’s been brought up a few times on the board the last few months. Some Tennessee posters agree with your assertion and wouldn’t be surprised either. They did say it’s going to be a nail biter regardless.

Not at all. In fact, I'd almost be more shocked if he didn't win. It just seems like, at least in this part of the state, that he's more liked, known and gets more press/whatever than Blackburn. At least in Shelby County. Which is really no big surprise. Seems like we are "eat up" with stupid people.

I wouldn’t be shocked at all unfortunately.
I’ve done my part though. My dad (big MAGA supporter) and mom (moderate who held her nose and voted for Trump due to him not being Hillary), were both telling me they find Marsha to be fake and on the take, and they were voting for Bredesen because they remember him as a pretty successful governor who got things done for the state.
I’ve now convinced both of them that no matter how moderate or bipartisan he claims to be, will vote in lockstep with Chuck Schumer 100% of the time if elected. Showed them the results of the tax cut vote in the senate the first time around and pointed them to Gorsuch’s nomination and what’s going on with Kavanaugh. They finally believe me and both say they’re now voting for Marsha. I’m sure there are other aspects, but I’m taking credit here.

If Doug Jones votes for Kavanaugh, Bredesen can use that.

The way his face looks just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. A touch of soy up there.

Bredesen is a popular governor, but I don't see much traction for his campaign in SE Tennessee. Blackburn and co. have done a good job painting him as a high tax guy, against the tax cuts, and a rubber-stamp Dem.
He doesn't appeal to typical Democrat voters, eg your inner city minorities, because that counters his attempt to paint himself a moderate. I mean, he'll get the Signal Mountain liberals who literally live above their inferiors, but he's not going to get much of the working class and suburban vote here.
Nashville and Memphis may be a very different story, though.

Blackburn was a terrible candidate

He will carry Memphis easily since he has a D next to his name, and I expect him to carry Davidson county as well given his name recognition and time as mayor/governor.
I think Marsha will carry almost every other county in the state, but not sure it will be enough. Like other posters have said, it comes down to enthusiasm and turnout.

It's not that she's a terrible candidate it's that Bredesen is a superior candidate. She's using her Republican Congressional caucus as a surrogate because she has to be in DC more right now. The fact that Bredesen has not started to pull away tells me she has some traction

It wouldnt surprise me at all. He was relatively popular here

Factor in a Trump Rally a few days before the Vote. Trump will dump on Bresden; I.e., tell the truth of how Bresden will vote.
Also, there will be a vote to make PERMANENT this years tax cuts, right before the election. Don't think that won't count too.
Declassification, and call-outs on where Candidates stand.
Today's polls are irrelevant in relation to the projected vote.
