Mentioned the perps, said the kind of agents that were involved in questionable operations, got on wrong side of the law, (example of how they pursue drug cartels using assets involved in drug trade, trouble in their prior agencies/positions. Rosenstein able to leverage their actions to use them, they were bad guys anyway.
Gained info from them bragging about it, maybe because was believed to be a dead case, they felt protected by police involved.

The guy isn't trying to answer the wide range of questions being asked, which is one dead giveaway for a faker. He limits his statements to what could have reasonably been obtained from the conversation or his own experience. E.g., he was asked about post-shooting events at the hospital and said had no way of knowing that; was asked to explain the killers frustration with the late hour and rather than try to fill in the gaps or guess he just said he didn't know, that's just what they expressed to him.
Something about his (verbal) mannerisms and the way he answered, or didn't answer, sounded at least 50/50 reasonably believable.
